ENGLEWOOD, Colo. | The Denver Broncos are reporting to training camp knowing they’ll be counted on to help a community in mourning heal from the movie theater shooting in suburban Denver last week.

Coach John Fox said the Broncos are embracing the role, one he’s familiar with from his time with the New York Giants during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Several Broncos visited hospitalized victims of Friday’s shooting that left 12 dead and dozens injured at the midnight premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises” in nearby Aurora.

Cornerback Tracy Porter used his last day of vacation on Tuesday to visit some of the shooting victims on his own, and he said he was amazed by their resiliency.

The Broncos gathered for meetings Wednesday. Their first practice is Thursday morning.
