AURORA | Tuesday marks the opening day of the 2015-16 regular season for Aurora teams in boys and girls basketball, girls swimming, wrestling and ice hockey.
While many city squads delay their opening contests, many jump in right away on the first day, as five city boys basketball teams, five girls basketball teams and two swim teams get underway.

The Overland boys basketball team plays on its home floor for the first time since winning the Class 5A state championship in March, as the Trailblazers play host to George Washington at 7 p.m. in a potentially explosive opener.
Aurora Central, Eaglecrest, Gateway and Smoky Hill also tip off their seasons.
In girls hoops, Cherokee Trail begins tournament play by facing off against Ralston Valley in the Cherry Creek/Arapahoe Tip Off Classic, while Aurora Central, Gateway and Regis Jesuit open their seasons on their home floors and Vista PEAK plays on the road in Colorado Springs.
Last season’s 5A runners-up, Regis Jesuit, welcome Heritage into the Bubble at 4 p.m. for a Continental League girls swimming dual meet, while Grandview is home to Chaparral at 4:30 p.m.
