Winter Sports: Weather wipes out Tuesday’s Aurora prep sports slate

AURORA | Inclement weather prompted Aurora Public Schools, Cherry Creek School District and Regis Jesuit High School to close school on Tuesday, meaning that all after school practices and games were also scrubbed.

Five boys basketball games and four girls games fell victim to the weather and several of them were key contests.

On the boys side, Regis Jesuit (15-2 overall, 4-0 in the Continental League) was set to host Rock Canyon (16-2, 5-0) in a Continental League showdown that will now have to wait, while Vista PEAK (12-4, 7-1) had to move its home game against Fort Morgan (11-6, 8-0) — with the winner taking pole position in the Colorado 7 standings — back to Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The undefeated Rangeview boys (16-0, 3-0) were slated to host Brighton (9-7, 2-1) in EMAC play, but that game has been pushed back to Feb. 17.

The Vista PEAK girls (13-4, 7-1) were also slated for a home against Fort Morgan (8-9, 7-1) with heavy Colorado 7 implications and that will also move to Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. prior to the boys game.

A girls-boys doubleheader with Gateway at Aurora Central was in the process being rescheduled, while the Hinkley boys game at Northglenn, the Rangeview girls game at Brighton and the Regis Jesuit girls game at Rock Canyon also will be moved to later dates.

Story will be updated with reschedules as they come in.
