AURORA | Practices for the upcoming 2012-13 winter prep sports season are allowed to get underway Friday, as the 92nd season of prep sports sanctioned by the Colorado High School Activities Association moves to the second season of the school year.
Boys and girls basketball, wrestling, girls swimming and ice hockey can begin tryouts as they work toward the opening day of the season on Nov. 28. Scrimmages are allowed as of Nov. 15.
The Regis Jesuit ice hockey team is the lone defending champion from the winter season for Aurora teams, as coach Dan Woodley’s team claimed its third state title in the past five seasons with a 3-2 victory over Ralston Valley in March at Magness Arena on the University of Denver campus.
The Rangeview boys and Regis Jesuit girls both made it to the semifinals of the Class 5A state basketball tournaments before losing.
