BOYS BASKETBALL: Centennial League continues with two quality matchups, both set for 7 p.m. Friday, beginning with Overland’s (6-8, 0-1) visit to Cherry Creek (10-3, 1-0). Large rivals Grandview (10-4, 1-0) and Cherokee Trail (11-3, 1-0) clash on the home court of the Cougars, who come in on a four-game winning streak (which includes a defeat of Arapahoe in the league opener), while the Wolves have won three straight, including a close league-opening defeat of Eaglecrest. …An explosive City League contest could be in store at 7 p.m. Friday when Rangeview (10-3) — which has thrived on its defensive play this season, see story, here — travels to Denver East (6-7) in a matchup of teams that have each won their first three league contests. …Eaglecrest and Smoky Hill — who played in the championship game of the Centennial League Challenge last season — renew their rivalry in Centennial League play when the Raptors (10-4, 0-1) welcome the Buffaloes (2-11, 0-1) for a 1 p.m. contest.
GIRLS BASKETBALL: Centennial League rivals tip off at Cherokee Trail at 5:30 p.m. Friday, when the Cougars (12-2, 0-1) welcome in Grandview (7-7, 1-0) for a league clash, while Overland (12-2, 1-0) seeks a sixth-straight victory when it goes on the road to Cherry Creek (2-11, 0-1) at 5:30 p.m. …Regis Jesuit (11-4) is off to a 2-0 start in Continental League play and seeks to extend that start with a 7 p.m. Friday road contest at Ponderosa (7-8, 0-2). …Rangeview (1-10, 0-1) seeks to establish a winning streak when it plays host to Denver East (8-5, 1-0) in City League play at 7 p.m. Friday. …A large Centennial League contest is set for 11:30 a.m. Saturday when a pair of 11-win teams meets at Eaglecrest, where the Raptors (11-3, 0-1) seeks to get in the league win column against the Buffaloes (11-2, 1-0), winner of five straight.
BOYS WRESTLING: Cherokee Trail turns around from a loss to rival Grandview with a road tri-dual Friday hosted by Fort Lupton, with the host Blue Devils joined by the Cougars in addition to Central of Grand Junction. …A contingent from Cherokee Trail along with Overland and Regis Jesuit head to the Lakewood Duals, which begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, the same time Eaglecrest competes at the Northglenn Invitational. …The Mile High Classic hosted by Thomas Jefferson High School begins at 9 a.m. with Hinkley and Vista PEAK Prep in the field, while Gateway and Rangeview will take part in the 41st annual Les Mattocks Invitational set for 9 a.m. Saturday at Abraham Lincoln High School.
GIRLS WRESTLING: The Tiara Challenge hosted by Douglas County High School begins at 1 p.m. Friday and resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday and among the entries are Eaglecrest, Overland, Regis Jesuit, Smoky Hill and Vista PEAK Prep.
GIRLS SWIMMING: Regis Jesuit heads to Cherry Creek for a meet that begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and pits the teams that collected both trophies from last season’s Class 5A state meet.
ICE HOCKEY: The Cherry Creek co-op team looks to remain hot with a contest against Denver East, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Big Bear Ice Arena. The Bruins turns around with a 7 p.m. Saturday road contest at the Blue Sports Stable against Monarch.
