THE WEEK PAST IN AURORA PREP SPORTS (SEPT. 29-OCT. 5, 2026)
MONDAY, OCT. 5: The Hinkley girls volleyball team celebrated its seniors and came away with a hard-fought 28-26, 25-27, 25-14, 25-11 victory over Vanguard Classical East in a local matchup. …The Hinkley girls flag football team faced a deficit at halftime to Aurora Central, but scored 13 unanswered points after a halftime ceremony that recognized its seniors for a 20-12 victory. …The Gateway girls flag football team defeated visiting Aurora West College Prep Academy 34-12.
SATURDAY, OCT. 3: The Cherokee Trail and Eaglecrest softball teams both won twice on the opening day of the Centennial League Challenge, which vaulted them into the Oct. 7 championship game. The Cougars defeated Smoky Hill 12-0 (as Sophia Jans threw a four-inning no-hitter) and Arapahoe 12-2 (Emma Rice tossed a four-hitter), which saw a 5-for-6 combined day for Tayah Burton — who stole four bases — while Rylee Holsten drove in four runs. The Raptors, meanwhile, defeated Cherry Creek 16-6 and Grandview 12-2 with wins going to Alyssa Vallejos and Haisley Elliott, respectively, while they had 14 hits in each game. Lelia Kelliher had a huge day offensively with six hits in seven at-bats and drove in seven runs, while Elliott went 4-for-5 and scored six runs. Vallejos, Giana Vialpando Williams and Lexi Bargar homered against Cherry Creek. …Mohamad Jama had a goal and an assist, while Michael Ramirez and Miguel Roa also scored for the Gateway boys soccer team in a 3-1 victory over Aurora Central. …A first-half goal by Alexis Rojas (assisted by Collin Dion) held up for the Smoky Hill boys soccer team in a 1-0 win over Thomas Jefferson. …Brooke Sullivan threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another, Aniya Coleman caught two scoring passes and Kate Mellinger had a rushing touchdown and interception for the Grandview girls flag football team in a 45-6 win over Smoky Hill.
FRIDAY, OCT. 2: The Cherokee Trail softball team won a 12-2 road contest over last season’s Class 5A state champion — Broomfield — behind five innings of three-hit pitching from Sydney Cobb. Seven different Cougars drove in a run, including Delaney Falzon, who had three of their 13 hits plus two RBI. …Kemo Fofana’s late goal broke a tie and gave the Aurora West College Prep Academy boys soccer team a 2-1 victory over Lotus School For Excellence, which got its goal from Erick Ochoa. Fofana had both goals for the Spartans. …The Aurora West College Prep Academy girls volleyball team took down visiting Addenbrooke Classical Academy in four sets. …Brandon Pearcy of the Vista PEAK Prep boys cross country team ran a time of 16 minutes, 41.60 seconds, to place fifth in the boys race at the Denver East Angels Invitational at City Park. The Bison did not have enough finishers for a team score, but Aurora Science and Technology did as it placed 16th with help from the 56th-place finish for Eli Briones-Ruiz. The Owls were ninth on the girls side with a top finish from Kayley Perez, who was 68th. …Jade McDaniel of the Cherokee Trail girls cross country team came in ninth and Clara Kapfer took 15th to help the Cougars to 11th place in the girls race at the Pat Amato Classic. Aiden Schumacher of Rangeview gave the Aurora area a third top-20 finisher with her 19th place result. The Rangeview boys took 19th place with help from Jessiah Rice, who was 71st. …The Overland girls flag football team downed Aurora Central 37-6 in a game that was rescheduled from earlier in the season due to weather. Michaela Halton threw for 337 yards and four touchdowns — two to Joy Jamison and others to Lucy Massingale and Symphony Vaughn — for the Trailblazers. …Sam Beatty had the only goal of the game for the Regis Jesuit field hockey team in a 1-0 win over Denver East.
THURSDAY, OCT. 1: Emma Rice allowed one hit over three innings and the Cherokee Trail softball team rolled past Cherry Creek 14-2 in Centennial League play. Rice helped herself with four RBI, while Taylen Shaver knocked in three and Leera Davis had three hits. …The Grandview softball team scored three runs or more in three of four at-bats en route to a 12-0 win over Smoky Hill. Lily Jackson homered, while Mackenzie Hiebert, Harper Elmore and winning pitcher Christi Birx (who allowed just one hit and struck out seven) had two RBI apiece. …Despite three hits and two RBI apiece from Anabelle Velasco and Raylene Heredia-Ruiz, the Rangeview softball team fell to Thomas Jefferson 14-12. …Joe Coughlon, Jackson Huguelet and Broderick Newburn were the goal scorers for the Regis Jesuit boys soccer team in a 3-0 Continental League win over Castle View. …Two goals by Andrew Campbell helped lift the Grandview boys soccer team over Eaglecrest 3-1. …Gera Barco and Alan Quintana tallied for the Hinkley boys soccer team and Jorge Chavez made six saves in a 2-0 win over Aurora Central. …Two Miguel Roa goals in the second half lifted the Gateway boys soccer team to a 2-1 win over Skyview. …Adrian Gonzalez scored twice, while Chase Duncan and Sebastian Garcia-Cordova also tallied for the Vanguard Classical East boys soccer team in its 4-1 victory over DSST: Green Valley Ranch. …The Cherokee Trail girls volleyball team turned away Mullen 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21 as three players tallied double-digit kills in Londyn Donaldson (15), Olivia Laughlin (11) and Raeana Gibbs (10), Isabella McClinton made 35 digs and Jillian Kuskie dished out 39 assists. …Yanna Griffin tallied 16 kills and had six service aces to help the Grandview girls volleyball team to a 22-25, 25-10, 25-21, 26-24 win over Arapahoe. Amelie Pigeaire added 13 kills and Avery Valencia had eight. …Sadie Griffith’s seven kills paced the Eaglecrest girls volleyball team to a 25-20, 25-13, 25-13 victory over Smoky Hill. …Rylee Mansanares had 10 kills and three of the Hinkley girls volleyball team’s bushel of service aces in a 25-16, 25-15, 25-14 win over Adams City. …Rilee Bergquist threw touchdown passes to Joanna Byrd and Elazia Patton for the Vista PEAK Prep girls flag football team in a 14-12 win over Denver North. …The Grandview field hockey team had a 3-0 win over a Palmer Ridge team that it lost to earlier this season.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 30: The Regis Jesuit softball team scored four times in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 7-6 walk-off Continental League win over Rock Canyon. Alexis Colvin tripled twice among three hits, the same total as Kendal Craven, and six Raiders drove in runs. …Sebastian Garcia-Cordova and Adrian Gonzalez scored goals and Andin Toverlani needed to make just three saves as the Vanguard Classical East boys soccer team blanked William Smith 2-0. …Jayden Schwabauer had two touchdowns and two sacks, Kendall Tracy caught two touchdown passes and Brooke Sullivan accounted for four scores for the Grandview girls flag football team in a 38-7 win again Overland. Michaela Halton threw a late touchdown pass to Joy Jamison for the Trailblazers. …Raegan Wagner caught two of Iyana Gonzalez Som’s three touchdown passes and also intercepted three passes for the Eaglecrest girls flag football team in a 27-12 win over Smoky Hill. Jacy Surrell had two interceptions and a touchdown for the Raptors. …Yasmin Castillo threw for two touchdowns and rushed for three as the Aurora Central girls flag football team downed Gateway 38-12. Liliana Flores De Jesus had 188 yards of total offense and a touchdown for the Trojans. …Jordan McDonald threw a touchdown pass and Mia Stanton returned an interception for a touchdown for the Rangeview girls flag football team in a 12-6 win over Northfield. …The Hinkley girls flag football team blanked Thornton 19-0. …The Overland gymnastics team earned a score of 171.450 points to finish in front of Rock Canyon (169.100) and Ponderosa (159.975) in a three-team meet. Abby Mess finished second in the all-around competition and won the balance beam (which saw the Trailblazers sweep the top three spots) and Stephanie Fernandes took the floor exercise.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 29: Lexi Bargar homered and dorve in five runs and Lelia Kelliher knocked in three to support Alyssa Vallejos as the Eaglecrest softball team won 14-0 at Smoky Hill. Tiani Lobitos and Sydney Smith added two hits and two RBI apiece for the Raptors. …Harper Elmore homered, drove in four runs and joined Ally Birx (2 RBI) and Mackenzie Hiebert (4 runs scored) with three hits for the Grandview softball team in its 14-7 win at Arapahoe. …Angeli Zavala-Benavente had three extra-base hits (two doubles and a triple) and drove in seven runs for the Rangeview softball team in a 25-0 win over Lincoln. Sophia Caloca added three RBI and scored four times for the Raiders. …Joe Coughlon produced the lone goal for the Regis Jesuit boys soccer team in a 1-0 Continental League win over Mountain Vista. …Goals by Flavio Flores Guerrero, Rooney Leon Hernandez and Sergio Sandoval lifted the Rangeview boys soccer team to a 3-1 victory over rival Gateway. …Justin Rodriquez and Hamman Swissi were the goal scorers for the Overland boys soccer team in its 2-0 shutout win over Cherokee Trail. …The Cherokee Trail girls volleyball team won a battle with Grandview for the top spot in the Centennial League standings, as the Cougars prevailed 21-25, 27-25, 25-23, 25-19. Londyn Donaldson’s 15 kills led Cherokee Trail, while Grandview’s Amelie Pigeaire had a match-high 21. Raeana Gibbs added six kills and four blocks and Isabella McClinton had 21 digs for the Cougars, while Samantha Foster had 13 digs and Ema Reyes 34 assists for the Wolves. …The Regis Jesuit girls volleyball team got 10 kills form Chandler Lynott, 30 assists from Avery Kreutzer and eight digs and three aces from Emme Phillips in a 25-11, 25-15, 25-15 Continental League win over ThunderRidge. …The Gateway girls volleyball team earned a three-set sweep of Adams City. …Brooke Sullivan threw two of her three touchdown passes to K’Dence Thomas and had a part in all four scores for the Grandview girls flag football team in a 27-20 win over Rock Canyon. Aniya Coleman caught the other touchdown pass, while Brynn Godwin had four sacks for the Wolves. …The Regis Jesuit boys tennis team shuffled its lineup, but won every match save No. 3 singles in a 6-1 Continental League dual win over Legend. …Alex Bitew won at No. 3 singles and the Rangeview boys tennis team took three of four doubles matches in a 4-3 home win against Overland.
