THE WEEK PAST IN AURORA PREP SPORTS, 5.7-5.13.24

MONDAY, MAY 13: The Cherokee Trail baseball team topped Grandview 7-2 in a restart of a game that was halted by weather a few weeks prior. Braedan Reichert homered and drove in five runs for the Cougars, which also got a bomb from Luca Slavato. …The Gateway baseball team closed its regular season with a 9-0 home loss to Alameda. The Olys finished 10-11. …The Smoky Hill baseball team dropped a 13-3 visit to the Far Northeast Warriors. …The Grandview girls soccer team fell to Ralston Valley 3-0 in a Class 5A state quarterfinal contest at the North Area Athletic Complex (full story, here). …Four players from Regis Jesuit (Audrey Whitmore, Paige Furgason, Natalie Furgason and Molly Amann) and two from Cherokee Trail (Kaylee Saul and Brinnon Cook) earned spots in the Class 5A girls golf tournament out of the Southern Region tournament at The Pinery. …Maddie Dossey of the Gateway girls golf team secured one of the final spots in the Class 3A girls golf state tournament out of the Region 2 tournament at Lone Tree G.C.

SATURDAY, MAY 11: Aron Gardea had three hits and three RBI, while Alberto Avila pitched 6 1/3 effective innings for the Aurora Central baseball team, which defeated Skyview 8-7 to win the Colorado League championship. …Starting pitcher Liam Mosley scattered two hits in four scoreless innings and the Regis Jesuit baseball team got the bats going late in a 15-5 home win over Pine Creek. Hudson Alpert went for 4-for-4 with three extra-base hits — including a home run — and joined Trevor Nordstrom and Brody Chyr with three RBI apiece for the Raiders. …Brian Herrera allowed just three hits in a complete game for the Vista PEAK Prep baseball team in a 5-1 win over Westminster. Domenic Montoya drove in a pair of runs for the Bison. …Cherokee Trail finished second, Grandview third, Eaglecrest fourth, Smoky Hill seventh and Overland eighth when the matchups concluded in the Centennial League Challenge baseball tournament. …The Regis Jesuit boys swim team finished second at the Class 5A state meet at the Veterans’ Memorial Aquatic Center, while Smoky Hill finished sixth, Grandview ninth, Cherokee Trail 11th and Overland 28th. The Wolves had the lone state champion in Oliver Schimberg in the 100 yard backstroke (full team scores and results, here). …The Eaglecrest boys track team won the Centennial League championship meet by a 13-point margin over Cherokee Trail. Grandview and Eaglecrest finished second and third in the girls standings to lead local finishers. …The Vista PEAK Prep boys track team finished as the City League runner-up at in the meet that concluded at All-City Stadium. …Aurora teams finished 1-1 in the second round of the Class 5A boys lacrosse state playoffs, as Regis Jesuit advanced with a victory over Rock Canyon, while Grandview fell to Denver South. …The Cherokee Trail girls lacrosse team challenge defending 4A state champion Mead on the road before falling 11-8 in the quarterfinals. …The Grandview boys volleyball team was eliminated from the state tournament with a three-set loss to Littleton Public Schools at Overland High School.

FRIDAY, MAY 10: Connor Brennan doubled in John Rossi and Brayden Stufft to deliver a 5-4 walk-off victory for the Eaglecrest baseball team over Rocky Mountain. …Abel Salinas struck out 12 and allowed just one hit and two runs in a complete game for the Vista PEAK Prep baseball team in a 7-2 win at George Washington. Connor Angelini knocked in two runs for the Bison.

THURSDAY, MAY 9: Braden Elliott tossed 4 1/3 effective innings for the Eaglecrest baseball team in a 4-1 win over Denver East. Jaxin Mallory drove in two runs for the Raptors, while Holmes and Ryan Novak also had RBI.

TUESDAY, MAY 7: Max McGinnis threw a seven-inning no-hitter and struck out 15 in the Rangeview baseball team’s 5-0 win over Lincoln. …Two RBI apiece from Isaac Bond, Logan Walton and Ezra Wise helped the Vista PEAK Prep baseball team to a 22-12 win over Thornton. …Akoi Burton homered and drove in five runs and the Cherokee Trail baseball team downed Grandview 15-3 in a Centennial League Challenge semifinal. Keegan Eberly earned the win. …John Rossi homered twice and drove in two runs and Noah Brown had three hits and three RBI, but the Eaglecrest baseball team lost to Cherry Creek 20-9 in a Centennial League Challenge semifinal. …Vista PEAK Prep’s Sophia Capua fired a plus-8 79 at Kennedy G.C. to finish second in the City League girls golf tournament.
