THE WEEK PAST IN AURORA PREP SPORTS, 4.9-4.15.24

MONDAY, APRIL 15: Brody Chyr, Trevor Nordstrom, Christian Lopez and Andrew Bell all hit home runs, and the Regis Jesuit baseball team had 13 hits in an 18-5 Continental League road win at Douglas County. Chyr also had three doubles and drove in four runs, and the Raiders easily backed winning pitcher Luke Reasbeck, who gave up one earned run in four innings. …The Vista PEAK Prep baseball team earned a 5-1 win at Aurora Central behind six innings of two-hit baseball from Brian Herrera, who struck out eight. Steven Reaux drove in two runs for the Bison, while Aron Gardea plated the Trojans’ lone run. …A four-run seventh inning gave the Gateway baseball team the cushion it needed in a 9-4 Colorado League road win at Thornton. …Jacqueline Gonzalez scored in the aftermath of a corner kick in the 68th minute as the Aurora Central girls soccer team rallied past Alameda 2-1 in Colorado League play. …The Grandview boys lacrosse team eased past Evergreen 19-10 in a late non-league contest at Legacy Stadium, which was the site of the Eaglecrest boys lacrosse team’s 13-10 loss to Chaparral earlier. …The Regis Jesuit girls lacrosse team rolled to a 12-3 victory on the turf at Lou Kellogg Stadium. Madisyn Jokerst paced the Raiders with five goals, while Phoebe Rogala added three. …The Vista PEAK Prep boys volleyball team earned a 25-19, 25-19, 25-22 City League sweep of visiting Denver East. …Led by Audrey Whitmore — who shot a plus-1 73 to finish third individually — the Regis Jesuit girls golf team placed fourth at the Continental League Tournament held at Saddle Rock G.C.

SATURDAY, APRIL 13: A bunt by Tucker Smock allowed the winning run to come home as the Grandview baseball team defeated Rock Canyon 7-6 in nine innings. AJ Maroni had three hits, and Jax Pfister tripled among a pair of hits for the Wolves. …Abel Salinas scattered seven hits over 6 2/3 innings, and Connor Angelini closed out a 1-0 win for the Vista PEAK Prep baseball team over Thomas Jefferson. Salinas drove in Cole Redmond with what turned out to be the only run of the game in the first inning. …The Eaglecrest baseball team broke open a scoreless game late and held on for a 7-5 home win over Brighton. Connor Brennan earned the win with six strong innings, while John Rossi and Jaxin Mallory each had two hits and an RBI. …Max McGinnis struck out 10 and overcame four errors as the Rangeview baseball team downed Westminster 7-3. McGinnis, Micah McPhail and William Stevenson had two hits apiece for the Raiders. … A nine-run third inning helped the Gateway baseball team to a 16-3 road in at Sierra. …Hazel Bonansinga racked up four goals and Allyn Castro Morales also scored for the Rangeview girls soccer team in a 5-1 win at Overland. …Landon Brewer and Daniel Yi won two events apiece for the Smoky Hill boys swim team, which took five events on its way to the championship in the Smoky Hill Invitational. Brewer took the 50 and 100 yard freestyle titles, while Yi won the 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard breastroke, while he anchored a winning 400 yard freestyle relay team that also included Kyle Brushaber, Ian Noffsinger and Jake Baker. A third-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle by Hugh Mullen led the way for Cherokee Trail, which finished in sixth. …The Cherokee Trail boys track team rolled to the championship of the Lions Classic Invitational with a whopping 234 points. Jayden Hughes (100 meters), Kahari Wilbon (200 meters), Peyton Sommers (400 meters), McKay Larsen (800 meters), Gino Palombi (1,600 meters), Solomon Griffen (110 and 300 meter hurdles), Braylen Thomas (high jump), Marcus Adams (shot put) and Taylor Waters (pole vault) earned wins for the Cougars. On the girls side for third-place Cherokee Trail, Kaeli Powe won the triple jump with a state-leading effort of 41 feet, 1 inch, and also took the 5A lead in the long jump at 19-6 1/2, and Ka’Moyyah Allen (400 meters) and Jade McDaniel (3,200 meters) also won in addition to victories in the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays. …The Regis Jesuit boys and girls track teams both finished 11th at the Mullen Invitational. The Smoky Hill girls finished ninth and the boys 13th, while the Overland girls were 12th. …The Regis Jesuit boys lacrosse team got three goals apiece from Dylan Kummer and Austin Ryan, but lost a 12-11 overtime decision to Legend. …A four-goal outing from Everett Breniser wasn’t enough as the Eaglecrest boys lacrosse team fell to Evergreen 9-5. …Aubrey Benton scored nine goals, Abby Vanzant dished out seven assists and Kyla Bieker contributed five goals and four assists as the Cherokee Trail girls lacrosse team rolled to a 20-6 win over Durango. …The Cherokee Trail and Grandview boys volleyball teams both finished 3-1 at the Legend Tournament, at which the Cougars defeated the Wolves in three sets in head-to-head play, while Eaglecrest went 2-1.

FRIDAY, APRIL 12: The Eaglecrest boys and girls track teams won the championships of the Thomas Jefferson Twilight meet at All-City Stadium. A 94-point win for the Raptors on the girls side featured event championships from Rachel Carlsen (300 meter hurdles), Ellie Shaw (1,600 meters), Zenobia Witt (long jump and triple jump), McKenna George (shot put) and Adelaide Schmitt (discus) and they also took the 4×200 meter relay. A sweep of the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800 meter relays as well as titles in the triple jump from Savon Johnson and shot put from Kael Weatherby fueled the Eaglecrest boys to a 33.5-point win. …The Rangeview boys lacrosse team fell to The Vanguard School 11-10. …Samuel Addai-Opoku racked up eight kills, and Ammon Fifita recorded 20 assists as the Hinkley boys volleyball team swept Alameda 25-12, 25-13, 25-22. …The Smoky Hill girls tennis team swept Overland 7-0 in a Centennial League dual.

THURSDAY, APRIL 11: Landon Olds allowed a single hit over five innings as he helped the Cherokee Trail baseball team to a 13-0 win at Smoky Hill. Grayson Hoffman-Roenfeldt homered and drove in four runs, and Olds helped himself with two RBI. …The Grandview baseball team edged Arapahoe 7-6 in Centennial League play as the win went to Jax Pfister. Chase Chapman knocked in two runs for the Wolves. … Landen Holmes drove in four runs and pitched two scoreless innings for the Eaglecrest baseball team in a 23-0 win against Overland. Camden Mann went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI for the Raptors. …Oswaldo Rodriguez had three hits, and Anthony Rubio drove in two runs as the Gateway baseball team topped Jefferson 16-2. …Aron Gardea homered and knocked in three runs, while Toby Sanchez and Jose Gomez each had two RBI as the Aurora Central baseball team edged Adams City 10-9. …Ruth Salazar scored both goals for the undefeated Gateway girls soccer team in a 2-0 win over Skyview. …Lindsey George, Sam Nunez and Lexi Yi scored two goals apiece for the Grandview girls soccer team in a 10-0 win over Overland. …The Aurora Central girls soccer team scored three times in the second half to rally past Thornton 4-3. …The Regis Jesuit girls soccer team ceded a second-half goal in a 1-0 loss to Rock Canyon. …Kaylynn Stewart racked up 34 saves, but the Vista PEAK Prep girls soccer team lost an 8-0 contest to Chaparral. …The Smoky Hill boys swim team topped Cherokee Trail 112-71 in a loaded Centennial League dual meet. Landon Brewer and Daniel Yi won twice for the Buffs, while Tyson Walker took two events for the Cougars in a meet that saw 32 5A state-qualifying standards reached. … Emilia Calamari, Madisyn Jokerst, Katie Kieran, Amina Pope and Delaney Sitzmann had two goals apiece for the Regis Jesuit girls lacrosse team in a 16-1 win over Pueblo West. …Laurel Johnson had three goals, and Avery May made 16 saves as the Grandview girls lacrosse team won a 7-6 road game at Grand Junction. …The Vista PEAK Prep boys volleyball team got 13 kills and six aces from Tristan Rowley on its way to a 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-12 win at Gateway. Vincent Johnson countered with 14 kills for the Olys, while Joseph Thomas had 11. …The Hinkley boys volleyball team had a seven-match winning streak snapped as Regis Groff prevailed 27-25, 25-21, 30-28. …Chase Jensen’s 17 kills and 13 from John Clinton weren’t enough for the Cherokee Trail boys volleyball team in a 25-16, 25-14, 23-25, 25-22 loss to the Littleton Public Schools team. … Nohemi Martinez Ferrer won a three-set No. 3 singles match to prevent a sweep, and the Rangeview girls tennis team took three doubles matches for a 4-3 dual win over Denver North. …A singles sweep from Ashley Betancourt (No. 1), Alexandra Flores (No. 2) and Kassandra Flores (No. 3) boosted the Aurora Central girls tennis team in a 5-2 dual win over Thornton. …The Vista PEAK Prep girls tennis team swept Hinkley 7-0. …Grandview’s Caroline Ryan fired a plus-1 73 to win medalist honors at the Centennial League girls golf tournament held at Saddle Rock G.C. The Wolves were third as a team, and Cherokee Trail (which had Saruul Gantulga shoot 90 to tie for ninth) fourth. … The Gateway girls golf team topped Thornton to take the Colorado League minor at Springhill G.C. Maddie Dossey shot 102 to finish atop the field. …Behind Audrey Whitmore’s plus-3 75 that put her fourth individually, the Regis Jesuit girls golf team finished fifth at the Heather Cho Memorial.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10: Hudson Alpert scattered three hits and struck out seven in six innings as the Regis Jesuit baseball team topped Valor Christian 8-2. Christian Lopez went 4-for-4, while Andrew Bell and Trevor Nordstrom had two RBI apiece for the Raiders. …Dylan Kummer ripped a shot in the net late in overtime to lift the Regis Jesuit boys lacrosse team to a 4-3 win over Mountain Vista. Kummer had two goals, while Rocco Biviano and Gordon Reynolds also scored for the Raiders. …Cody Scott had eight goals, Brady Smith eight assists and Greg Atencio eight saves as the Smoky Hill boys lacrosse team blanked Littleton 17-0. …Despite seven goals from Joe Alie and three goals and seven assists from Mason Kelly, the Grandview boys lacrosse team fell to Denver East 18-13. …Alejandro Garcia had 11 kills, and Devan Hall dished out 23 assists for the Grandview boys volleyball team in a 29-27, 25-14, 25-17 win over Highlands Ranch. …Francesca Johnson (No. 1), Alexa Cohen (No. 2) and Karla Rodriguez (No. 3) swept singles matches for the Vista PEAK Prep girls tennis team in a 5-2 win over Denver South’s V2 team.

TUESDAY, APRIL 9: Justin Dean threw a complete game with seven strikeouts as the Grandview baseball team won 6-3 at Cherokee Trail. …Liam Mosley allowed two hits in five innings, and Andrew Bell homered twice and drove in three runs as the Regis Jesuit baseball team topped Chatfield 7-3. …Connor Brennan struck out nine in six innings, while four players drove in runs as the Eaglecrest baseball team topped Smoky Hill 6-3. … Angely Rodelo Acevedo, Noeli Herrera-Silva and Vivian Mendoza scored for the Gateway girls soccer team in a 3-0 win over Thornton. …A long blast from Isis Prestwood midway through the second half broke a tie, and the Grandview girls soccer team topped Mullen 2-1. Gaby Hansen had the Wolves’ other goal. … Noorah Muzaffar, Kiana Sparrow and Peyton Waterman scored for the Cherokee Trail girls soccer team in a 3-0 win over Eaglecrest. …Makyla McGaughy racked up six goals for the Vista PEAK Prep girls soccer team in a 9-0 win over the Far Northeast Warriors. …A five-goal performance from Madisyn Jokerst helped the Regis Jesuit girls lacrosse team to a 15-3 win over Palmer Ridge. …The Cherokee Trail boys volleyball team remembered late former teammate Daniel Xiao before a three-set win over Mullen. …Vincent Johnson tallied 16 kills to help the Gateway boys volleyball team to a 25-19, 25-21, 25-15 win over Denver South. …The Regis Jesuit girls tennis team got singles wins from Rebecca Gelfer (No. 1) and Otylia Martino (No. 3) and three doubles wins in a 5-2 dual win over Mountain Vista.
