THE WEEK PAST IN AURORA PREP SPORTS, 4.29-5.5.25
MONDAY, MAY 5: The Regis Jesuit baseball team pounded out 16 hits in five innings of a 10-0 Continental League home win over Rock Canyon. Luke Reasbeck picked up the victory with a one-hitter, while he had three hits along with Gavin Cronin and Christopher Lopez. …The Aurora Central baseball team downed Overland 15-5 in Colorado League play behind a complete game from Kalai Bentosino. Jorge De Los Santos had three hits and joined Eloy Sifuentes with two RBI for the Trojans, who avenged a 10-run loss to the Trailblazers from April 8.
SATURDAY, MAY 3: The Grandview baseball team celebrated its seniors, who had a lot to do with an 11-3 Centennial League home win over Smoky Hill. Chase Chapman went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs, Kyle Cacciavillani also had three hits and two RBI and Nick Martensen droubled twice and drove in two runs. …Cosme Vera came within an out of a complete game and Brian Moreland finished it off as the Eaglecrest baseball team blanked host Mullen 4-0 in Centennial League play. Moreland joined Landen Holmes, Braden Elliott and Tavish Dey with RBI for the Raptors. …The Overland baseball team piled up 13 runs in the top of the fifth inning to surge past Hinkley 17-7. Ruben Luna had four hits and four RBI and Brayan Ascensio to pace the Trailblazers, while Emiliano Manjarrez Soleto had two hits and an RBI for the Thunder. …The Regis Jesuit baseball team had its eight-game winning streak snapped with a 10-2 loss at Legacy. Gavin Cronin, Luke Reasbeck and Christian Lopez had two hits apiece for the Raiders in the defeat. …The Continental League Championship track & field meet concluded at EchoPark Stadium with Regis Jesuit in eighth in the boys competition and 11th in the girls. Charlie Dutmer won the boys 110 and 300 meter hurdles crowns, while Dominic Douge took the shot put for the Raiders. …The Cherokee Trail boys track team won the title of the Fritz Fulton Memorial Invitational meet held at Stutler Bowl with a score of 174 points to 167 put up by Eaglecrest. Peyton Sommers won the 100 and 400 meter dashes amid seven event titles for the Cougars, while the Raptors had their only win in the 4×400 meter relay. Third-place Grandview saw Revano Plummer win individually and contributed to the 4×100 meter relay win, while Jarrius Ward took the discus for seventh-place Overland. The Eaglecrest girls won the Fritz Fulton title by a margin of 77 points over runner-up Cherry Creek with help from six event titles, including hurdles crowns for Zenobia Witt (100 meters) and Rhyan Gadlin (300 meters). Third-place Grandview had three winners, while fourth place Cherokee Trail had two, while sixth-place Smoky Hill (4×800 metere relay) and Overland (Lezlee Napier in the 100 meters) had one apiece.
FRIDAY, MAY 2: The Regis Jesuit baseball team took the Continental League lead with a 17-10 win at Castle View that featured a home run and five RBI from Diesel Bernosky as well as three hits apiece from Gavin Cronin (who had three RBI) and Luke Reasbeck (who scored three runs). Hudson Alpert allowed one earned runs in four innings to pick up the win. …A two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts from Abel Salinas led the Vista PEAK Prep baseball team to a 6-0 City League win at Thomas Jefferson. Eli Garcia went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs to lead the Bison. …The Rangeview boys lacrosse team closed out a 6-9 regular season with a 14-4 home win over St. Mary’s that included four-goal games from Jelani Smith and Conner White. White added three assists for seven points, while Jackson Long had five with three goals and two assists. …The Regis Jesuit boys lacrosse team lost a home showdown with undefeated Cherry Creek 11-3….The Predators Cup trophy stayed with the Cherokee Trail girls lacrosse team for a fourth straight season as the Cougars downed rival Grandview 15-5.
THURSDAY, MAY 1: A six-inning no-hitter throw by Ethan Wachsmann and Nick Martensen led the Grandview baseball team to a 9-0 win at Smoky Hill. To back the strong pitching, Chase Chapman and Kyler Vaughn each went 3-for-3, Matthew Schimberg homered and Kayden Bohmeyer had four RBI. …Maikol Ochoa homered and drove in three runs to help himself on the mound as he pitched five innings for the Gateway baseball team in a 6-4 City League home win over Thornton. …A goal by Katie Vogel in the second half lifted the Cherokee Trail girls soccer team into a 1-1 Centennial League tie with Arapahoe to give the Cougars a 9-3-3 final record for the regular season. …Charlotte Barfield gave the Regis Jesuit girls soccer team a lead over Grandview at rain-soaked Legacy Stadium, but Paige Jasinowski got the equalizer for the Wolves in the second half for what ended in a 1-1 tie. Grandview finished the regular season 5-7-3, while Regis Jesuit was 7-4-4. …Hazel Bonansinga converted a pass from Zuleyka Perez into a goal in the second half as the Rangeview girls soccer team earned a 1-1 City League tie with George Washington. The Raiders finished the season 5-8-1. …The Overland girls soccer team finished a 6-9 season with a 2-1 Colorado League home win over Aurora Central (2-12-1). …The Rangeview boys lacrosse team downed Littleton 12-3 with three goals in all four quarters. Conner White led the Raiders with five goals plus an assist and Santiago Pina Martinez made nine saves. …Vista PEAK Prep No. 1 singles player Francesca Johnson claimed third place at the Class 5A Region 2 girls tennis tournament, but it wasn’t enough to extend her season. Johnson suffered her only loss of the season in a three-set semifinal and rebounded to take third, but was unable to get a playback for a berth in the 5A individual state tournament. … The Gateway girls golf team finished second behind Thornton at the Colorado League Minor held at Thorncreek G.C. The Olys were led by Hermione Lopez in seventh place, one spot behind Aurora Central’s Alexus Lopez.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30: The Regis Jesuit baseball team rallied for an 8-6 Continental League road win over Ponderosa that saw Hudson Alpert hit three doubles and drive in a pair of runs, while Isak Stevenson and Nick Wiley added two RBI apiece. … Tavish Dey homered and drove in three runs to back a strong outing on the mound by Braden Elliott and the Eaglecrest baseball team topped Denver North 7-4 in a rescheduled contest. …The Regis Jesuit girls soccer team played Mountain Vista to a 0-0 Continental League tie. …Alana Rodriguez scored late in the opening half for the Eaglecrest girls soccer team to lift the Raptors into a 2-2 Centennial League tie with Smoky Hill. Noel Pulley also scored for the Raptors, who fell behind the Buffaloes early on goals by Lauren Nesbitt and Aribelle Arreola Hernandez. …The Cherokee Trail boys lacrosse team got six goals from Cooper Bernard in a 10-5 non-league win over Northfield. Race Bowen made 16 saves for the Cougars. …Shylin Collins racked up nine goals and three assists, while Kendall Colglazier added five goals for the Eaglecrest girls lacrosse team in a 14-11 road win at St. Mary’s Academy. …Sophia Capua of Vista PEAK Prep shot plus-9 81 to finish in second place at the City League girls golf tournament played at Aurora Hills G.C. The Bison finished fourth out of five scoring teams.
TUESDAY, APRIL 29: The Vista PEAK Prep baseball team got a 6-5 walk-off City League win over Denver South on a suicide squeeze bunt by Ace Kelly. Eric Houser (who got the win in relief) homered as did Karter Robinson for the Bison. …A 5-for-5 day at the plate for Anthony Rubio (who drove in two runs and scored three times) and Yanndy Aguayo’s four hits and four RBI helped the Gateway baseball team to an 11-7 Colorado League win at Overland. …Makayla Sellyei scored a goal in each half as the Cherokee Trail girls soccer team topped rival Grandview 2-1 to win the Arapahoe Derby trophy for othe first time. Isabella Limas-Villers gave the Wolves the lead in the 10th minute, while Selleyi scored in the 20th and 58th minutes to help the Cougars to the win. …Hazel Bonansinga and Zuleyka Perez each scored and assisted each other on goals for the Rangeview girls soccer team in a 2-1 City League win at Vista PEAK Prep. Taylor Allen had the Bison’s goal in the opening half. …Rocco Biviano scored four goals and Austin Ryan added three for the Regis Jesuit boys lacrosse team in an 11-5 win over Rock Canyon. …Mason Kelly racked up five goals and five assists for the Grandview boys lacrosse team in an 18-2 win over Eaglecrest at Legacy Stadium. Cameron Festi added four goals and Jack Cole and Cameron Schultz had two goals and an assist apiece for the Wolves. …Despite three goals apiece from Madisyn Jokerst and Morgan Neir, the Regis Jesuit girls lacrosse team had its 10-game winning streak snapped with a 9-8 road loss against ThunderRidge at Halftime Help Stadium in its regular season finale. …The Cherokee Trail girls golf team won the final Centennial League tournament of the season at Saddle Rock G.C. as Brinnon Cook and Haylee Clark tied for second place with plus-6 78s. Grandview finished fourth. …Audrey Whitmore shot plus-9 80 at Meadow Hills G.C. to tie for fourth place and help the Regis Jesuit girls golf team to fourth place at the next-to-last Continental League tournament.
