DEC. 4: The Cherry Creek co-op ice hockey team improved to 2-0 with a 4-2 road win against Mountain Vista. Christian Brown (Eaglecrest) was one of three goal-scorers for the Bruins in the victory.

DEC. 3: The Vista PEAK girls basketball team won its initial meeting with Brighton — one that doesn’t count in the EMAC standings — with a 70-58 home victory…The Gateway boys basketball team improved to 3-1 in coach Ian Calvert’s first season with a 68-58 home win over Hinkley. Marcus Hill scored 15 points and Kywan Jones had 14 for the Olys, who claimed fifth at the Denver Tip-Off tournament to open the season.

DEC. 1: Grandview won the Fort Lupton Invitational wrestling tournament Dec. 1, as it accrued 144 points to finish well atop an eight-team field. Frankie Sanchez (106 pounds), Fabian Santillan (138), Dylan Ranieri (152), Joe Renner (195) and Angelo Falise (220) all won their individual weight classes for the Wolves…The Eaglecrest wrestling team finished in second place at the Arapahoe Warrior Invitational with a 156-point effort that put the Raiders in front of 16 other teams and behind only Coronado (207). Caeleb Knoll won the 113-pound championship and Osman Yigi Topuz rallied to win the 220-pound title bout for Eaglecrest, which had eight top-six placers. Regis Jesuit’s Antonio Segura defeated Eaglecrest’s Tyler Maccagnan to win the 152-pound title…The Cherokee Trail boys basketball team claimed fifth place at the Mountain Vista/Rock Canyon Tip-Off Classic tournament with a remarkable 76-74 overtime win over Liberty at Mountain Vista High School. Coach Gary Childress’ Cougars trailed 51-42 going into the final period, but rallied to force the extra period and outscored the Lancers 13-11 for the victory. Isaac Tesfaye tallied 20 points to pace Cherokee Trail, while Brownson Townsie added 19 and Chad Robinson 18.

NOV. 29: The Rangeview girls swim team, the defending EMAC champions, got off to a strong start in dual meets with a 101-85 home victory over Brighton. Senior diver Sarah Mortenson scored 278.15 points to give her one of the two scores she needed to qualify for the 5A state meet, while junior Jasmine Johnson won a pair of events and the Raiders grabbed seven first in all on their way to victory.
