MONDAY, JAN. 5: The Regis Jesuit boys basketball team dropped a second tight contest in as many games with a 70-68 road loss at Horizon. Eric Fiedler poured in 30 points, while Anthony Lynett added 19 and Joseph Haubert 11. …The Overland boys basketball team trailed Rock Canyon by three points at halftime, but the visiting Jaguars pulled away in the third quarter to defeat the Trailblazers 75-56. Darian Proctor paced Overland with 13 points, while Demetrius Lambert had 12 and Mehki McNeal 11. …The Eaglecrest girls basketball team extended its win streak to three games with a 69-25 home victory over Douglas County in which Kennedy Spellman set the scoring pace with 26 points. Kiarra Spellman added 21 and Naomi Emecheta had eight for the Raptors. …Despite a 33-point effort from Ava Chang, the Grandview girls basketball team lost its first home game of the season as the Wolves fell to Valor Christian 62-56. …The Regis Jesuit ice hockey team got back on the winning track with a 6-1 matinee win over Castle View. Beau Paton scored two goals and had an assist, while Dylan Nash and Alexander Stellino also filled both columns for the Raiders, who also got 17 saves from Marc Brousseau.
SATURDAY, JAN. 3: Cameron Hopkins and Jordan Mitchell scored 19 points apiece to help the Cherokee Trail boys basketball team to a 75-72 home win over Regis Jesuit, which got 37 points from Eric Fiedler. Caleb Jensen scored 13 points — including a go-ahead basket in the final minute — and London Moore also got in double figures with 15 for the Cougars. Michael Price finished with 14 for the Raiders. …A 29-point outing from Reece Brown helped slingshot the Eaglecrest boys basketball team past Kent Denver for a 70-67 win in a championship semifinal of the Raptor-Titan Classic. …Behind 22 points from Demetrius Lambert, the Overland boys basketball team downed visiting Broomfield 58-50. Darian Proctor had a follow that gave the Trailblazers the lead for good in the fourth quarter and he added 16 for the game. …The Grandview boys basketball team raced to an 84-44 win over Vista PEAK Prep to continue a strong start to the season. Noah Sevy paced the Wolves with 15 and was joined in double figures by Jason Stroope (13), Ismael Kabongo and Obi Morris (12 apiece) and Charlie Atkinson and Matthew Samson (10 apiece). …The Eaglecrest girls basketball team returned to play with a 67-55 home win over Fruita Monument that featured 23 points from Kennedy Spellman, 20 from Kiarra Spellman and 12 from Kaydence Waymire. …The Overland girls basketball team resumed the season with a 57-27 road win over Silver Creek. …The Regis Jesuit girls basketball team split two games to conclude the She Got Game Classic in Atlanta with a 56-45 win over Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy (Fla.) and a 57-44 loss to Westgate (Ga.). Tiana Rogers had 16 points in both games for the Raiders, while Celie Dengler also had double figures in the win with 10. …The Grandview boys wrestling team rolled to the championship of the Colfax Smackdown tournament at Denver East High School with a whopping 172 points to the 90.5 of runner-up Chatfield. JR Ortega (120 pounds), Kyle Menuez (132), Anthony Segura (144), Jonathan Montes Gonzales (157), Gunner Lopez (165), Christian Skov (175) and Leland Day (285) won their weights for the Wolves. …The Cherokee Trail boys wrestling team topped The Classical Academy 61-17 to finish third at the Legend Duals. The Cougars — whose only loss came by two points to Rocky Mountain — also defeated ThunderRidge (56-18), Legend (46-22) and Greeley West (60-15) and in the process earned longtime head coach Jeff Buck his 300th dual win. Cooper Mathews (132 pounds) went 5-0 with two pins and three wins by technical fall, while Mitchell Buck (120) went 4-0 and also received a win by medical forfeit. …The Grandview boys wrestling team also placed second at the Buffalo Invitational hosted by Smoky Hill with the 157-pound champion in Caden Pachelli among eight top-six placers. With help from bracket winners in Richard Avila (113), Dane Anderson (120) and Aidan Sullivan (215), Regis Jesuit finished third, while fourth-place Overland also had a trio of winners in Illia Fialkov (150), Juan Valdez Martinez (175) and Cameron Wainwright (285). Host and fifth-place Smoky Hill had back-to-back bracket winners in Tagg Charity at 132 and Jovani Galvan at 138, while Kaeden Shriver (190) won a title for sixth-place Cherokee Trail. Champion Adrian Pacheco (106) led four top-three placers for eighth-place Vista PEAK Prep. …Felix Morales (150 pounds) of Aurora Central won the lone bracket championship between the two Aurora programs (Aurora Central and Rangeview) in the Leo Rex Tournament at Littleton High School. Heavyweight Biram Griffey finished second to lead the Raiders to fifth among 12 scoring teams, while the Trojans had six top-six placers to finish 10th. …The Vista PEAK Prep girls wrestling team racked up 118 points to edge Standley Lake (115) for the championship of the Buffalo Invitational at Smoky Hill High School.Hailey Brown (105 pounds), Amelia Bacon (125) and Idaly Garcia (130) won championships among eight top-four placers for the Bison. Third-place Overland had champions in Mihret Shimels at 110 and Jackelyne Torreblanca Oseguera at 170 and had 13 top-six placers. Host Smoky Hill finished eighth as a team as Maria Pascual Francisco (115) and Mackenzie Johnson (145) earned titles. …Remington Zimmerer (120 pounds) and Alexandra Zimmerer (170) won their respective brackets to help the Regis Jesuit girls wrestling team to seventh among 16 teams at the Bennett Invitational. …The Eaglecrest girls wrestling team finished in third place among 21 teams from multiple states at the Conflict in Cleveland at the Rio Rancho Events Center in New Mexico. Maxime Lantz won the 145-pound weight class to pace the Raptors, who also got a fourth-place at 170 pounds from Parice Jones. …Liam Corcoran, Ari Gelfand, Davis Ritter, William Rodney and Ryder Werth scored goals in the second period for the Cherry Creek co-op ice hockey team in a 5-0 win over Regis Jesuit. Mason Banks made 21 saves for the shutout.
FRIDAY, JAN. 2: The Eaglecrest boys basketball team outscored Castle View 26-2 in the second quarter en route to a decisive 65-34 win in the opening round of the Raptor-Titan Classic. Demari Manns Davis paced the Raptors with 13 points, while Reece Brown and Clayton Kalimba added 11 apiece. …Celie Dengler had a team-high 12 points, while Tiana Rogers added 11 as the Regis Jesuit girls basketball team opened the She Got Game Classic in Atlanta with a 46-40 win over Midtown (Georgia). …The Regis Jesuit boys wrestling team downed Merino 60-23 in a dual match that featured wins by fall from Richard Avila, Dane Anderson, Gavin Anderson, Leonardo Landini, Joaquin Valdez, Lafe Sarjeant and Aidan Sullivan. …The Cherry Creek co-op ice hockey team scored multiple goals in all three periods on the way to a 11-0 win over Resurrection Christian. Ari Gelfand piled up five goals in the win, while Matthew Lopez had a goal and four assists and Sean Badasyan registered two goals and two assists for the Bruins. …Evan Michalik had a hat trick for the Regis Jesuit ice hockey team in a 6-2 win over Mountain Vista. Beau Paton added two goals, Will Farber had two assists and Easton Sparks made 21 saves for the Raiders.
