・Despite soggy conditions, the Vista PEAK boys golf team continued to roll in EMAC competition, as the Bison claimed the second South Division minor tournament of the season Aug. 24. Playing on its home course at Murphy Creek Golf Course, Vista PEAK had three of the top five individuals in Jaren LaCabe (who tied for 2nd with an 18-over 90, which was matched by Rangeview’s Levi Robinson), plus fourth-place Quezdon Ivey (91) and Luke Meier in fifth (93). Gateway’s Michael Milton, a transfer playing in his first tournament, won individually with a score of 12-over 84. He was nine-over before a triple bogey on the 18th hole. Rangeview finished second, Gateway third, Aurora Central fourth and Hinkley fifth. A week earlier, Vista PEAK finished second in the first EMAC major tournament, played at Buffalo Run G.C.

・The Eaglecrest softball team opened the season with a 9-8 road victory over Douglas County on Aug. 23. The Raptors piled up six runs in the third inning — highlighted by RBI base hits by Rachel Sabourin, Alicia Fraire, Anna Keefe, Shaye Allen and Hannah Jensen — and Sabourin (who had three of the Raptors’ 13 hits and drove in three runs) tacked on a solo home run in the fourth to build a big lead. The Huskies rallied, but reliever Mackenzie Hostetler got the final out to preserve the win as Eaglecrest avenged a one-run loss to Douglas County in 2015.

・Cherokee Trail’s Varsity 2 team got the Cougars off to a strong start to the boys tennis season with a 5-2 non-league dual match victory on Aug. 23 at Rangeview. Cherokee Trail swept singles play (Zac Martin at No. 1, Keason Wonder at No. 2 and Nate Populoroum) and claimed two of the four doubles matches. Rangeview’s victories came from Christian Sael and Leng Yang at No. 2 doubles and the No. 4 doubles tandem of AJ Flohr and Luke Stuckenbruck.

・Eaglecrest’s Davis Bryant took the lead in the Centennial League individual standings when he shot a 4-under-par 68 on Aug. 22 at South Suburban Golf Course. Bryant, the defending league medalist, posted a four-stroke victory in the second league tournament of the season, which was part of the Big Dry Creek Invitational hosted by Arapahoe. An eagle on the par-5 Hole No. 11 highlighted Bryant’s round, while he finished ahead of a field that also included strong rounds from Smoky Hill’s Cole Johnson (74) and Grandview’s Danny Taggart (75). The Buffaloes finished atop the other Aurora teams with a fourth-place finish. Recap and full team and individual scores, here.

・Regis Jesuit made a move in the Continental League standings on Aug. 22 with a seven-stroke victory in the third league meet of the season held at Lone Tree Golf Course. Senior Tyler Zhang overcame a bogey on the opening hole and went on to fire a 4-under-par 68 for a five-stroke victory over senior teammate Justin Markel, who carded a 73 to tie for second. Senior Harry Woodward shot 76 and sophomore Walker Fuller turned in a 79 to help the Raiders top Rock Canyon and take the lead in the team title chase with two of a five-tournament slate completed. Recap and full team and individual scores, here.
