Saying he still gets goosebumps when arriving to set up for the Robert F. Caviness Invitational track meet, Craig Caviness felt a particular swell of pride April 9.
He and sister Marla again oversaw the meet that bears their late father’s name and celebrated its 60th anniversary with its annual running at Aurora Public Schools Stadium.
APS athletic director Michael Krueger and his staff pumped new life into the longest-running meet in Colorado, which saw a competitive day with a handful of new teams in the field, including district regulars Aurora Central, Gateway, Hinkley, Rangeview and Vista PEAK.
A longtime Hinkley coach, Bob Caviness would have been proud of the showing of the Thunderbirds, who swept the boys and girls team championships for yet another season.
On top of that, distance runner Alan Rios received the annual Caviness Scholarship.
