Two years ago, the Vista PEAK girls tennis team failed to win a single match at the Colorado 7 championship tournament.
The Bison walked away from this season’s league meet April 21 at Utah Park with a whole slew of wins and second place as a team.
Coach Simon Moorwood’s Vista PEAK team collected the first three league tennis championships in school history as No. 1 singles player Allison Embury, No. 2 singles player Danielle Klem and the No. 4 doubles team of Leisa Grumbles and Holly Edwards all prevailed in championship matches. Junior Jordyn Probst also made the No. 3 singles final and lost in a tense three-set tiebreaker.
Embury bettered her second place finish at the league tournament last season and received Colorado 7 Player of the Year honors.
• The Regis Jesuit boys swim team saw Cherry Creek finish in front of them for a second time this season and gain some extra motivation for the upcoming Class 5A state swim meet as the bruins prevailed 171-144 in a dual meet between the teams April 21. Senior Quinlan Stuart and freshman Ty Coen won two events each for the Raiders, who also had senior Will Pieseski and diver Kyle Goodwin earn firsts individually and got a win from the 200 medley relay.
• The Cherokee Trail baseball team moved into a share of second place in the Centennial League standings with a 4-2 win over rival Grandview on April 21. Sophomore pitcher Conner Nantkes allowed just two unearned runs against the Wolves and sophomore Nick Perez had a pair of hits and drove in three runs to lead the Cougars, who go for a sweep April 23.
• Rebekah Burton registered a hat trick and Cherokee Trail topped Mullen 5-3 April 20 in Centennial League girls soccer.
• The Overland boys track team won the George Washington Patriot Invite April 18, while the Grandview boys finished one point behind Pomona for the title in the Grandview Invitational at Legacy Stadium.
• Chet Dunstan scored three goals and Matt Soran added another, but the defending Class 5A state champion Regis Jesuit boys lacrosse team suffered an 8-4 loss to Cherry Creek April 18 in a rematch of last season’s state title game.
