• The aftermath of a fast-moving blizzard March 23 that closed schools for two days followed by the start of spring break made for a lull in prep sports action in Aurora.

A few contests got in locally, however, while several teams have left the state for spring break trips to play in places such as California, Arizona and Florida.

• Missing a number of players due to spring break, the Cherokee Trail girls lacrosse team dropped a 17-2 non-conference contest to Chatfield on March 29 at Trailblazer Stadium. Joie Katzka scored in the first half and Bri Martinez tallied in the second half, but the Cougars fell behind the full strength Chargers early and couldn’t rally.

• The Regis Jesuit baseball team opened a trip to the IMG National Classic in Florida with a rain-shortened 5-2 win over St. John’s College. North Carolina-bound senior right-hander Bo Weiss allowed one hit and two earned runs over five innings with six strikeouts to pick up the victory. Jack McIntire and Austin Choiunard each picked up RBI for the Raiders, who improved to 3-0 on the season after wins over Arapahoe and Cherry Creek prior to their trip.

• A three-game swing to Southern California for the Regis Jesuit boys lacrosse team opened with a strong 14-4 victory over Cathedral Catholic on March 29. The Raiders then got past Torrey Pines on March 30 and were to conclude the trip with a March 31 contest against La Costa Canyon. The Regis Jesuit girls lacrosse team also traveled to California and dropped a 19-6 decision to Novato on March 29.

• Josh Schumacher and Zach Sheppard knocked in first inning runs to get the Rangeview baseball team off to a strong start in its non-league visit to Fort Collins on March 29, but the Lambkins struck back on their way to a 9-3 victory. After the two-spot in the opening inning, Fort Collins matched it and went on to build a big lead, while the Raiders managed just one more run in the last six innings.

• Twenty-four Aurora boys basketball players from 11 schools put on quite a show at the inaugural A-Town All-Stars boys basketball game played on March 26 at Aurora Central High School. Fourteen players scored in double figures in an excellent capper to a phenomenal 2015-16 boys basketball season and Team East came away with a 133-117 win over Team West. Tyrei Randall (Rangeview) led winning Team East with 19 points, while David Thornton (Cherokee Trail) and Kenny Foster (Smoky Hill) added 18 apiece, while Team West was paced by 14 points from Elijah Coleman (Aurora Central), plus 13 from Jervae Robinson (Overland) and 12 apiece for Elijah Blake (Rangeview) and Alijah Halliburton (Overland).
