The Grandview football team continued its perfect season with a rousing 24-6 victory at Cherry Creek Oct. 10.
Senior quarterback Cody Summers rushed for a touchdown and threw a TD pass to Morgan Smith, Aiden Pirrin made a field goal and Keifer Glau recovered a punt blocked by Carter Boswell for an insurance score as the Wolves improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Centennial League.
Grandview — which scored the first points on the Cherry Creek defense in three weeks — faces Overland on Oct. 16 ahead of a showdown with Valor Christian on Oct. 24.
• Overland’s defense came away with eight turnovers and scored twice to help the Trailblazers post a 44-20 Centennial League football win over Eaglecrest on Oct. 9. Ahjon White rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown and Austin Conway threw three touchdown passes as Overland topped the high-powered Raptors, who got 89 yards and two touchdowns rushing from Glenn Washington and 142 yards receiving from Peter Anderson.
• Haley McLaren pounded 22 kills, Sarah Mullens added 12 and Katie Patrick eight as the Grandview volleyball team picked up a crucial 25-19, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23 Centennial League victory over Eaglecrest Oct 14. The Raptors, who lost for the first time in six league matches and can still win the league crown with a win over Mullen, got 13 kills from Jordyn Poulter, 11 from Dez Ziegler, 10 from Rachael Perrine and nine from Kalee Maricle.
• Kevin Del Mazo and Colton Ladyga scored goals in the second half as the Smoky Hill boys soccer team rallied past Cherry Creek 2-1 Oct. 9. Andrew Burton and Walter Prince picked up assists for the Buffaloes (12-2), who moved to 6-0 in the Centennial League and virtually sealed the championship with the win.
• The streaking Regis Jesuit volleyball team outlasted Legend 18-25, 25-15, 14-25, 25-19, 15-9 on Oct. 9 to follow up a big victory over Chaparral two days earlier. Santaisha Sturges piled up 17 kills and 18 diggs and Alex Cotner racked up 34 digs for the Raiders, winners of eight of their last 10 matches.
• The Rangeview boys soccer team saw a seven-game winning streak end with a 3-1 loss to visiting Westminster Oct. 9 in a game that created a tie atop the EMAC standings between the Raiders and the Wolves.
