A look at the games, tournaments and happenings in Aurora prep sports between May 15-May 20:
• The Class 5A-1A state track meet runs May 15-17 at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood, with at least one athlete from all 11 Aurora high schools (Aurora Central, Cherokee Trail, Eaglecrest, Gateway, Grandview, Hinkley, Overland, Rangeview, Regis Jesuit, Smoky Hill and Vista PEAK (4A)) set to compete. The meet opens with the 4A/5A portion at 8:30 a.m. May 15 with a mix of prelims and finals, begins at 8:20 a.m. May 16 and the all-finals final day kicks off at 9:30 a.m. May 17. See aurora sentinel.com for a full time schedule.
• The Class 5A baseball championship series opens with play May 16-17, as Aurora’s lone qualifier — Regis Jesuit — attempts to make it through three games in the double-elimination tournament and advance to the final weekend. The second-seeded Raiders (18-3) take on No. 7 Rocky Mountain (16-5) at 12:30 p.m. May 16 at Bishop Machebeuf to open, with a win sending them to a 3 p.m. game on the same field against either No. 3 Fairview (20-1) or No. 6 ThunderRidge (14-7). An opening loss would send them a 10 a.m. elimination game on May 17 at All-City Field in Denver.
• The Class 5A boys state swim meet is slated for May 16-17 at Thornton’s Veterans’ Memorial Aquatic Center, as the venue shifts from last season, when it was held at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction. Fifty-five individuals and 15 relay teams from Aurora schools are set to compete in prelims, scheduled for 4 p.m. May 16, while the top 16 in each event make it back for the finals at 2 p.m. May 17. Diving prelims and semifinals begin at 9 a.m. May 17.
• The Class 5A boys lacrosse state championship game is set for 4:30 p.m. May 17 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High and will pit the winners of the May 14 semifinals between Aurora hopeful Regis Jesuit and Arapahoe versus the Cherry Creek-Kent Denver winner.
• The Class 5A girls state golf tournament takes place May 19-20 at Raccoon Creek G.C. with nine players from Aurora schools among the 84 set to compete on the Littleton course. Tee times for city players varies, but Grandview’s Morgan Sahm is in the first group that tees off at 8:30 a.m. on Tee No. 10.
