AURORA | Smoky Hill’s top track standouts head to Arcadia, Calif., this weekend for the 46th annual Arcadia Invitational.
Senior speedster Zainab Sanni and distance star Rachael Chacko will compete in a combined three events at the meet, which runs Friday and Saturday at Arcadia High School near Los Angeles.
Due to a significant schedule of national meets, Sanni has yet to run in a high school meet in Colorado. She will make her debut at 7:36 p.m. MT on Saturday in the 100 meter dash seeded event. At 9:27 p.m. MT, Sanni is scheduled to compete in the 200 meter dash invitational event.
Sanni finished second in both the 100 and 200 meter races at last season’s Class 5A state track meet.
Chacko — who won the 800 meter run at the Centennial League Spring Break Qualifier on March 28 — is scheduled to compete in the 3,200-meter run at 8:15 p.m. Saturday.
The Arcadia Invitational has produced 25 national records and claims 152 meet alumni have represented the United States in Olympic Games competition.
