The Stutler Bowl Twilight track meet got rescheduled due to weather and was contested on April 24, 2017 — with Smoky Hill’s Darius Gaw and Grandview’s Julius Carter Jr. in the 300 meter hurdles — however the Liberty Bell and Grandview invitationals this upcoming weekend were not so lucky. AURORA | Spring sports sailed along for several weeks enjoying abnormally good weather, but it was operating on borrowed time.

In the stretch run, Colorado is back to being itself for awhile.

Rain and snow expected to arrive Friday afternoon and continue into Saturday has forced preemptive cancellation of track meets, including two — the Liberty Bell and Grandview invitationals — that had the majority of Aurora teams involved.

Several Aurora track teams had their schedules rearranged last weekend when the Stutler Bowl Twilight meet was rescheduled from Friday to Monday due to a storm moving in. The meet was completed, but stretched into the late hours of the night.

This weekend’s meets won’t be rescheduled.

Grandview coach John Reyes said the Grandview Invitational will just be canceled because it couldn’t secure a stadium in the district to hold the meet. The host Wolves, Aurora Central, Cherokee Trail, Eaglecrest, Gateway, Hinkley and Smoky Hill were set to compete in that meet at another date.

The two-day Liberty Bell Invitational at Littleton Public Schools Stadium also got canceled, with Overland, Rangeview and Vista PEAK in the field.

Regis Jesuit got in its competition at the Holy War hosted by Valor Christian, as the meet was moved from Friday to Wednesday.

The next competition for Aurora track teams is the EMAC Championships — which includes Aurora Central, Gateway, Hinkley, Rangeview and Vista PEAK — set to run prelims May 4 at Aurora Public Schools Stadium.
