GREENWOOD VILLAGE | In a preview of what it hopes will be a big performance at the Class 5A state track meet, the Grandview girls claimed the Centennial League championship Saturday.

The Wolves won seven events and racked up 166 points over two days of competition at sun-splashed Stutler Bowl to put a decent margin between themselves and rival Cherokee Trail, which finished with 143.

Senior Brie Oakley won the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs as Grandview’s lone double individual winner and Lily Williams (400 meters), Kaitlyn Mercer (800 meters), Alisha Davis (high jump), Leilah Vigil (discus) and the 800 sprint medley relay team all topped events as well for coach John Reyes’ team.

Oakley’s time of 10 minutes, 23.83 seconds in the 3,200 meter run — an event she won at last season’s state meet — is Colorado’s top time regardless of classification. The Wolves’ 800 sprint medley relay team turned in a time of 1:46.68 that also is the state’s best mark going into state.

Sprinter Taylor Watson had a big day for runner-up Cherokee Trail with victories in both sprint events and a leg on the winning 4×100 meter relay, while Jaiden Paris (100 meter hurdles), Sydnee Larkin (triple jump) and Kayla Ahrens (shot put) also topped the medal podium for coach Chris Faust’s Cougars.

Cherokee Trail’s 4×100 relay proceed a time of 47.63 seconds that ranks as tops in Colorado regardless of classification.

Smoky Hill garnered 59 points for fifth place — next-best among Aurora teams after Grandview and Cherokee Trail — paced by event champions in Christine Bailey in the long jump and the 4×400 meter relay.

Eaglecrest picked up 46 points despite no event champions, with help from three-event placer Mariah Gordon.

Overland geared up for state with its 4×200 meter relay team of ShyTe’yana Davis, Jaivion Lattimore, Krista Rhodes and Julyah Wilson, who clocked a time of 1:43.27
