DENVER | On a light day in terms of championship finals at the Class 5A state track meet, Prince David Ajibade put the Aurora area on the board with gold.
The Cherokee Trail senior completed his goal of winning a state championship in the high jump, as he claimed the event Friday afternoon at Jefferson County Stadium.
Ajibade’s top successful jump came with the bar at 6 feet, 7 inches, and he finished in front of Cherry Creek’s Luke Saville, who achieved the same height, but had more misses. Ajibade competed in the state meet for the third season and improved from his finish in 2025, which was fourth place.
It was a lucrative event in terms of points for the Aurora area, as Grandview freshman Finn Higgins set a personal record at 6-6 and finished third, while Vista PEAK Prep senior Quincy Wade grabbed ninth.
Earlier in 5A boys competition, Cherokee Trail senior Dylan Smith finished in third place in the 800 meter run, while Rangeview junior Jaiden Deans took fifth in the shot put.
