AURORA | Cherokee Trail senior sprint star Shayna Yon has finished the toughest race of her life, the recruiting race, and it was far from short.

After touring many of the top Division I schools in the country, Yon decided she wants to run at Louisiana State University.

Yon’s mother, Shirilynn, posted a picture of her daughter with her national athletic letter of intent at Blackstone Country Club, where Yon was surrounded by family clad in the Tigers’ purple and gold.

Yon also visited UCLA, University of Alabama, University of Miami, and the University of Kentucky and had the interest of other programs.

As a junior, Yon finished an Aurora-best fourth individually in the 100 meters at the Class 5A state meet and ran on Cherokee Trail’s 4×100 relay team that took fourth.

In her first state meet as a sophomore in 2012, Yon placed in the open 100 (3rd) and 200 (5th) meters and took seventh in the long jump as well as running on two outstanding relays.
