AURORA | Due to a Colorado High School Activities Association clerical error, the A-Town Game of the Week for Week 8 of the prep football season — which was originally schedule as Grandview playing host to Doherty on Oct. 21 — has been changed.

The permission for the Aurora Sentinel and StreamItSports to live stream the game at no charge between the Wolves and Spartans — co-leaders of the Mount Massive League — has been rescinded according to CHSAA Assistant Commissioner Bert Borgmann due to existing approval of a cable television network to broadcast the game. (Still look for coverage at aurorasentinel.com).

The benefit of the change? Audiences from Overland and Smoky Hill, which will now get to see the two former Centennial League rivals — who are back in the same conference again after two years apart due to the new waterfall alignment — square off with the Wagon Wheel traveling trophy on the line.

Kickoff for the Overland-Smoky Hill game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at Stutler Bowl, with Marty Cesario on the call.

The Trailblazers (1-6) have won the last two matchups with the Buffaloes (0-6) since the Wagon Wheel trophy came into existence in 2014 in the longstanding rivalry between the schools to symbolize the Overland and Smoky Hill wagon trails that ran through Aurora long ago.

Overland has won 24 of the 34 meetings between the teams.

Both teams have appeared on the A-Town Game of the Week this season. Watch Smoky Hill’s season opener with Eaglecrest here for free and Overland’s Week 6 game with Arapahoe here.
