AURORA | Again, bad weather postponed the large majority of prep sports in the past week got washed out by several snowstorms, but some significant results took place in Aurora April 18-22:

• Grandview and Arapahoe waged a Centennial League battle in the snow on April 22, with the Wolves coming away with a 3-0 victory on their frozen turf.

With a team of shovelers keeping the lines clear, Grandview got two goals from junior Maddi Rodriguez and one from Brooke Tasker to earn an important league win.

• The Smoky Hill boys lacrosse team further strengthened its position for a berth in the Class 5A state playoffs with an 11-3 rout of Heritage on April 22 on the snow-covered turf at Littleton Public Schools Stadium.

Junior Blake Foerster added five goals to his state-leading total — which is now at 44 — and senior Blake Spencer added his 38th, 39th, 40th and 41st scores of the season in the winning effort for the Buffaloes, who improved to 9-3 overall.

• Hinkley swept the boys and girls championships at the revamped Robert F. Caviness Invitational track meet on April 20, the first time that had happened in the meet’s 57-year history.

Senior Yanoudji Diarra won the high jump and placed in four events and the Thunderbirds took the girls meet title for the second straight season by a 50-point margin over Elizabeth.

The Hinkley boys had a 20-point cushion on their way to winning the Caviness meet for the first time since 1994. The meet is named in honor of the late Bob Caviness, a former track coach at Hinkley, who founded the meet.

• Smoky Hill scored the first three goals, then held off late-charging Cherokee Trail for a 3-2 Centennial League girls soccer victory in the late night hours April 20 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Madi Watts, Candace Cephers and Sam Howshar recorded goals for the Buffaloes, while Emily Burton and Aubrey Gessner accounted for Cherokee Trail’s two goals, both in the last 13 minutes.

The game turned out to be costly for Smoky Hill, however, as Watts — the team’s second-leading scorer — suffered a torn ACL and sprained MCL in the second half.

• The Grandview boys topped a field of 27 teams to win the Dakota Ridge Invitational on April 20 at Jeffco Stadium.

The Wolves took 1st in the 4×100- and 4×200-meter relays and won three events in all. Regis Jesuit finished fourth and was paced by pole vaulter Jordan Hatfield, who cleared 15 feet, 6 inches.

• The Cherokee Trail track team dominated the Ray Campbell Invitational on April 20 at Fountain-Fort Carson.

Shayna Yon and Hannah Sparks won two events each for the Cougars girls — who took eight first places in all — while the boys topped powerful Fountain-Fort Carson by 16 points.

• Cherokee Trail posted a 12-9 victory in two overtimes against Grandview in a key girls lacrosse matchup April 19 at Legacy Stadium. Shea Butler and Amanda Geary scored five goals apiece for the Cougars and combined for three of their four goals in extra time.

• In another key girls lax result on April 19, Regis Jesuit edged Chaparral 10-9 as Kathleen Roe and Courtney Gielow scored three goals each.

• Vanessa Madera scored the lone goal in Rangeview’s 1-0 EMAC girls soccer win over visiting Gateway on April 18.

The Raiders couldn’t finish on numerous set pieces and point-blank scoring chances, but Madera poked a left-footed shot past Olys goalkeeper Brittany Lane — who made 15 saves — in the 53rd minute.

Defensively, Rangeview (7-2) posted its fourth straight shutout and recorded its sixth straight victory overall.
