The week ahead in Aurora prep sports, 2.28-3.2


AURORA | A look at some of the key games, tournaments and happenings in Aurora prep sports from Feb. 28-March 1:

• The Regis Jesuit ice hockey team plays in the state semifinals at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 28 when the Raiders take on Monarch at Magness Arena at the University of Denver. The winner plays at 6 p.m. March 1 on the same ice for the state championship against Ralston Valley or Resurrection Christian.

• Girls golf and girls tennis teams can open their seasons on Feb. 28 while the rest of the spring prep sports have to wait until March 7.

• Grandview and Regis Jesuit, two top seeds in the 5A girls state basketball tournament, play March 1 with second round contests on their home floors, both at 7 p.m. The Raiders play host to eighth-seeded Smoky Hill — which beat ninth-seeded Liberty in the opening round — while the Wolves welcome in No. 8 Chatfield, a victor over No. 9 Legend.

• The six Aurora boys basketball teams who received 1st-round byes in the 5A state tournament are in action March 2 and will play on their home floors with trips to the Sweet 16 on the line.

No. 2 Cherokee Trail tips things off at 1 p.m. against Lakewood, followed by No. 3 Rangeview going against Highlands Ranch at 3 p.m., No. 1 Regis Jesuit playing host to Boulder at 6 p.m. and No. 2 Eaglecrest (vs. Arvada West), No. 3 Aurora Central (vs. Cherry Creek) and No. 4 Grandview (vs. Legend) at 7 p.m.
