AURORA | The Regis Jesuit boys and girls swim teams swept the Class 5A state championships last season and several key members of those teams will sign national athletic letters of intent Wednesday.

A number of NLI ceremonies are set for around Aurora, but Regis Jesuit’s joint gathering in its new Performing Arts Center will be quite swimming-centric.

Wednesday also marks the opening day of practice for the winter prep sports season. Before the Raiders get into the pool to begin preparations for a run at a third consecutive 5A girls state title, senior captain Taylor Wilson will sign with Villanova University.

Wilson swam the anchor leg of the clinching 400 yard freestyle relay for the Raiders at last season’s state meet, anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay and finished an Aurora-best fourth in the 50 freestyle.

Four members of the Regis Jesuit boys team that will aim to win a 20th state championship in 21 seasons in the spring also will sign.

Senior Kyle Goodwin, who will attempt to win a fourth consecutive 5A state diving championship, has committed to the University of Missouri, while three of the Raiders’ captains — seniors Quinlan Stuart, Will Pieseski and Garrett Suter — are also set to sign.

Stuart, last season’s 5A state champion in the 100 yard breaststroke, happily heads to North Carolina State, where his older brother Hennessey — a captain on last season’s Regis Jesuit state championship team — is a freshman.

Pieseski, who swam on a pair of championship-winning relays last season, is headed to Miami of Ohio, while Suter — whose older brother Zach is currently at Seton Hall — will sign with Seattle University.

Among other Aurora swimmers/divers signing on Wednesday — Smoky Hill’s Alex Kohlman (Emory University) and Eaglecrest diver Indiya Williams (University of Idaho)

At Regis Jesuit’s joint signing ceremony, three other female athletes will sign: volleyball player Santaisha Sturges with Metro State, golfer Sydney Gillespie with Colorado Christian University and basketball player Jess Lewis with West Point.
