CENTENNIAL | The Cherry Creek ice hockey team had a lot of time on the bus ride to Steamboat Springs for their final game before winter break to think about Friday’s overtime loss to Mountain Vista.

The district co-op team comprised of players from six schools has a lot to proud about in regards to its effort against the loaded Golden Eagles at Family Sports Center, as well as the first portion of the season in general.

Mountain Vista skated away with a 4-3 overtime victory over Cherry Creek when Ryan Daugherty netted his second goal of the game late in the extra period, as the Golden Eagles remained undefeated and dealt the Bruins their first defeat of the 2013-14 season. (Photo gallery)

Junior Cody Oakes (Cherokee Trail) scored a shorthanded goal in the second period to give Cherry Creek a 2-1 lead going into the third period and also scored on the power play to tie the game with less than five minutes remaining in regulation after Mountain Vista had gone ahead with a two-goal burst.

Nick McWharter had the other goal and goaltender Aaron Jatana made 33 saves on 37 shots for the Bruins, who had already doubled their win total from the entire 2012-13 season going into their final game of the first half Saturday at Steamboat Springs.
