THORNTON | It was the perfect ending to an imperfect season for the Overland co-op gymnastics team at the Class 5A state meet.

The Trailblazers finally put together a full meet on Friday in winning their third 5A state championship in the past five years and the capper came in Saturday’s individual event finals, when junior Devin Bundas won the state title in the floor exercise.

Bundas — who finished third in the all-around competition — missed the event finals in the past two seasons due to injury, but made the most of her first time by winning the floor exercise with a score of 9.675, while also placing second on the uneven bars with a 9.625.

Junior Kellyn Toole placed in both of the individual event finals she qualified for, taking second behind Bundas on the floor exercise with a 9.650. She had won the Centennial/Continental League and Region 3 championship in the event the previous two weeks. Toole also placed fifth with her 9.625 on the vault.

Like Bundas, freshman McKenna Turbyne qualified for three individual event finals, earning her way onto the podium with a fourth-place score of 9.600 on the balance beam.

Seniors Aimee St. Martin and Ashlynn Graybill also competed in the individual event finals, but neither made the top five.
