Golf: Somin Lee returns to take 6th in HealthONE Women’s Open

Former Overland High School golf star Somin Lee took sixth overall at the HealthONE Colorado Women’s Open May 30-June 1 at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver.

Lee, the 2010 5A state champion and currently a sophomore at Pepperdine, had the lowest amateur score in the 2011 tournament and nearly pulled off the feat again, but two bogeys in the last three holes dropped her a shot behind Jenny Coleman of California.

Lee matched eventual winner Joy Trotter with a 3-under-par 69 to share the lead after the first round, then carded a pair of 75s to finish with a total of 3-over 219.

The tournament featured 116 amateur players, including nine international players from six countries. Regis Jesuit’s Kathleen Kershisnik, who helped lead her team to the 4A state championship, also played.
