DENVER | Two Eaglecrest wrestlers and one from Vista PEAK Prep have earned spots in the Friday evening semifinals of the girls state wrestling tournament at Ball Arena.

Seniors Nyla Barmore (125 pounds) and Gianna Falise (190) of the Raptors and Bison sophomore Amelia Bacon (120)won quarterfinal matches earlier in the day to get themselves within a step of making their way into the Saturday evening finals.

Making the semifinals assures all three of a spot among the top six on the medal podium despite the outcome of the semifinal matches.

Area wrestlers finished 3-1 in the quarterfinals, as Regis Jesuit’s Alexis Segura suffered the only loss. Segura, who dropped a 3-1 decision, had been aiming to make the state championship match for the third time in three trips to state, but instead drops into the consolation bracket and still could place as high as third.

More area wrestlers remain alive going into the second round of consolations, which precede the semifinals.
