AURORA | The Grandview volleyball team is once again going back to a familiar place, the Class 5A state volleyball tournament.

Coach Patty Childress’s Wolves qualified for the state tournament at the Denver Coliseum for the 13th consecutive season by sweeping two matches in the Region 7 tournament on their home floor Saturday.

Seventh-seeded Grandview (19-6) knocked out another Aurora entry — No. 18 Regis Jesuit — with a 25-21, 25-15, 25-16 sweep in the final match of the day to gain another trip to state. The young Raiders, who experienced massive turnover since making state in 2011, went 2-1 on the day and finished the season 13-12.

Both teams opened with victories over No. 30 Prairie View — with the Wolves needing three sets in a 25-15, 27-25, 25-11 behind a 17-kill performance by junior Morgan Montgomery and the Raiders taking four for a 20-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21 win — before Grandview’s crisp sweep came courtesy for a strong team performance.

Montgomery again led the way with a team-high 10 kills. Senior Cat Denney and junior Kylie Coppel had seven each in plus 13 assists, second to junior Alyssa Svalberg’s 17.
