COLORADO SPRINGS | The Vista PEAK girls volleyball team made lineup adjustments that helped it finish the regular season strong and helped give it reason to be optimistic about its chances to be a wild card in the Region 5 tournament Nov. 5 at Rampart H.S.

Coach Simon Moorwood’s Bison ran into two teams with more firepower, however, as they dropped matches to No. 20 Broomfield and No. 5 Rampart in straight sets.

In its opener, Vista PEAK earned nine points in each of three sets in a loss to Rampart as junior Ayden West — whose mid-season move from middle blocker to outside hitter helped jumpstart the Bison offense — notched nine kills.

Vista PEAK then saw Broomfield prevail 25-15, 25-14, 27-25 in a match in which the Bison led for much of the third set before watching the lead slip away.

Senior outside hitter Joy Aburto notched 10 kills in the final match for the Bison, which finished 14-11. Aburto finished the season with 354 kills, which ranked third in 5A.

Vista PEAK will graduate Aburto — who also paced the team in service aces — along with assists leader Madison Feight and digs leader Charli James.
