AURORA | The Cherokee Trail girls tennis team won the Far East Invitational for the second straight season Friday.

Coach Paul Whipple’s Cougars racked up 37 points to finish eight in front of Vista PEAK as the two co-hosts — singles early rounds and finals took place at Vista PEAK and doubles early rounds were played at Cherokee Trail — topped a six-team field that also included Eaglecrest, Rangeview and Hinkley.

Originally scheduled to played over two days, the tournament had to be rescheduled and condensed to a single day in the wake of the blizzard and hit the area prior to spring break and two teams originally scheduled to play — Fort Lupton and Smoky Hill — had to drop out.

Kiran Dass (No. 1) and Tanya Solati (No. 3) won singles championships for Cherokee Trail, which also got victories from the No. 1 doubles team of Drishti and Aneri Patel and the No. 2 duo of Lindsey Stolting and Rhea Verma.

Coach Simon Moorwood’s Vista PEAK team advanced three positions to championship matches and the No. 3 doubles team of Daria Rizzone and Faith McFann won the Bison’s only title with a 7-6 (4), 7-5 win over Cherokee Trail’s Kaitlyn Snyder and Harsha Kalagana.

Agnes Park claimed the No. 2 singles championship as Eaglecrest’s only finalist.
