Girls Tennis: Wet weather forces postponement of 5A/4A state tournaments to next week

AURORA | The week’s rainy weather has claimed a victim, the Class 5A and 4A girls state tennis tournament.

According to the Colorado High School Activities Association, the 5A and 4A state tournaments — scheduled to run Thursday through Saturday at the Gates Tennis Center in Denver (5A) and Pueblo City Park (4A) — will be moved to next week to work around the weather, which is expected to be wet through the end of the weekend.

Officials from CHSAA deemed both sites unsafe for play Wednesday and moved to reschedule it instead of try to play it indoors or spread it out to multiple sites.

Whenever the 5A state tournament actually gets started, two doubles teams from Grandview and two from Regis Jesuit will get to play.

The Wolves are represented by the No. 3 doubles team of junior Olivia Brohl and sophomore Ila Farhang, along with the all-freshmen duo of Amanda Olsen-Dufour and Taylee Hardin at No. 4 doubles. The Raiders’ contingent is made up of the No. 2 doubles team of Catherine Nemechek and Claire Quinn and the No. 4 duo of Mackenzy Pedrie and Anna Kaminsky.
