DENVER | The Rangeview girls swim team capped its season with a fifth-place finish at the City “A” League Championship meet, which ran Friday and Saturday at Manual High School.

Coach Robin Allen’s Raiders — winners of the City League “B” meet the previous weekend as well as the Aurora City Championship meet — accrued 190 points to finish a place higher than it did it in 2023 to finish behind Denver East, Northfield, George Washington and Denver South.

Gateway and Hinkley earned earned 33 points to tie for eighth, while Aurora Central’s total of 24 put it in a tie for 10th among 12 scoring teams.

Rangeview’s top finishes came in the 200 yard medley and 200 yard freestyle relays, which both placed fifth. Both teams included senior Shemiah Turner and junior Hailey McDonald, who also had strong individual performances as well.

McDonald had the highest individual place for the Raiders as she placed seventh in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 347.35 points, which marked a rise of almost three points from her total at the previous season’s league meet. She added a 10th-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 12.24 seconds, which was almost six full seconds faster in the event than she swam in 2023. Turner, meanwhile, anchored both relay teams and also placed 11th in the 50 freestyle and 12th in the 100 freestyle.

Junior Kayla Allen joined McDonald and Turner on the 200 freestyle relay — which also included senior Leilani Ransburg — and she contributed to Rangeview’s sixth-place 400 freestyle relay. Individually, Allen finished 11th in both the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly.

Juniors Kate Gomez and Bella Gonzalez rounded out the 200 medley relay team.

Gateway had a C heat finalist in senior Fenix Z’Dorn, who was 15th in the 100 butterfly and 18th in the 200 freestyle, while she anchored a 400 freestyle relay team that included Nyssa Bailey, River Akiumi-otu and Sophie Curry to eighth place. Bailey made a C final as well and finished 17th in the 50 freestyle.

Hinkley’s top individual result came from senior Kateland Rodriguez, who came in 14th in the 100 butterfly, while she anchored the eighth-place 200 freestyle relay team that was rounded out by Andrea and Ana Campos and Helen Hernandez.

Aurora Central’s points came from the ninth-place finish of its 200 freestyle relay team of Berenice Guerrero, Lizzett Mireles, Adrianna Chatman and Jade King.
