Girls Swimming: Eaglecrest’s Rodocker repeats in third place in 5A diving

THORNTON | Senior Catie Rodocker completed an accomplished prep diving career Thursday with a second consecutive third-place finish in Class 5A girls state swim meet.

In an event held first and contested from start to finish before the rest of the meet at the Veterans’ Memorial Aquatic Center — as opposed to the typical program where finals take place in the middle — Rodocker accrued 469.20 to finish comfortably third in a field of 20 divers.

Though she didn’t match her state total from the previous season (480.80), Rodocker again finished behind friend and club teammate Izzy Gregerson of Ralston Valley — who was the state champion last season and runner-up this season with a score of 485.45 — while Lewis-Palmer’s Dahlia Allen jumped from fifth a year ago to first with a total of 503.10.

Rodocker, a University of Missouri signee, won the Centennial League diving championship the previous week and was only one of two divers from league programs to qualify for the state meet, which took only the divers with the top 20 eligible scores this season.

Cherokee Trail’s Autumn Ivester, who finished 18th, was the only other Centennial League diver at state. Eventual team champion Cherry Creek got no points from the diving competition.

Rodocker further enhanced Eaglecrest’s diving tradition at the state meet. The program has earned at least a point at state six times since 2000 and five of those times, all points came exclusively from divers. Indiya Williams also finished third in 2015.

The 20 points earned by Rodocker put Eaglecrest 25th in the final standings.
