AURORA | The three relay teams that played a big role in helping the Regis Jesuit girls swim team win the Class 5A state championship in the winter season landed on the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches All-American list for the 2013-14 season.

With the victory of the 400 yard freestyle relay team of junior Taylor Wilson, sophomores Lindsay Painton and Emily Protz and freshman Samantha Smith, coach Nick Frasersmith’s Raiders managed to hold off Fairview by a scant 6.5 points to win its second straight 5A state title and first without graduated star Missy Franklin.

That 400 freestyle relay team clocked a time of 3 minutes, 27.74 seconds, which put it 31st among the 100 teams from across the country that made it onto the NISCA All-American list, and netted the group the 5A crown in the event by 0.42 of a second.

Painton also combined with fellow sophomore Amy Lenderink, junior Sydney Cutler and freshman Jennae Frederick on the 200 medley relay that finished in 1:45.93, the 65th-best time in the country, and won a 5A state title as well.

Lenderink, Smith and Wilson earned their second All-American results as part of the 200 freestyle relay team along with freshman Isabella Schulze, the 89th-swiftest team on the All-American list with a championship-winning time of 1:36.96.

Sophomore diver McKensi Austin — Regis Jesuit’s lone individual state champion — landed on the NISCA All-American diving list released a week earlier.

The Regis Jesuit boys swim team had three relay teams and six individuals earn NISCA All-American honors.
