AURORA | While much prep action got in despite lightning delays and rain Tuesday, the Centennial League girls soccer game between Cherokee Trail and Grandview wasn’t one of them.
The two neighborhood rivals — each unbeaten so far on the season — had to flee the pitch due to lightning in the area around time of opening kickoff and spent an hour waiting as rain began to pour down. The game was officially postponed around 6:30 p.m.
With Legacy Stadium scheduled out with other soccer and lacrosse contests, Cherokee Trail coach Jeremy Schaller said the game will be played at 7:30 p.m. April 20.
Coach Tari Wood’s Grandview (5-0-1, 3-0 in Centennial League) team heads to play at Smoky Hill on Thursday, while Cherokee Trail (7-0-2, 1-0-1) is off until a non-league home contest against Chaparral on Saturday.
In a Centennial League result that helped both the Wolves and Cougars, Eaglecrest scored late to post a 2-1 victory at Arapahoe in a game delayed by weather.
Mattie Alpert scored in the opening half to tie the game and Ashley Hartmann tallied in the second half as the Raptors improved to 4-4 and 2-2 in league play.
