AURORA | Grandview’s Wolves are all that remains in the hunt in the Class 5A girls state soccer playoffs after a tough first round Tuesday.

Fourteenth-seeded Grandview’s 3-1 victory over No. 19 Regis Jesuit in an all-Aurora contest at Legacy Stadium marked the lone victory for the six city teams that qualified for the 5A postseason.

Senior Brooke Tasker scored twice in the second half and senior Maddi Rodriguez assisted on both, plus scored a goal of her own, as the Wolves beat the Raiders for the second time on the season and advanced to a second round matchup at third-seeded Pine Creek on Friday at District 20 Stadium in Colorado Springs.

Junior goalkeeper Maddie Lesjak saved eight shots in all and bounced back from a first-half goal allowed to Regis Jesuit’s Natalie Baltizar to pitch a shutout in the second half.

Regis Jesuit joined four other Aurora squads — No. 9 Smoky Hill, No. 14 Rangeview, No. 22 Cherokee Trail and No. 32 Hinkley — among the 16 teams ousted in the opening round.

The Buffaloes and Raiders both lost in tight fashion in home games, as 24th-seeded Dakota Ridge blanked Smoky Hill 2-0 at The Swamp and No. 18 Liberty tied Rangeview in the closing seconds of regulation and won 2-1 in double overtime at APS Stadium.

Cherokee Trail (8-2 at No. 11 Monarch) and Hinkley (10-0 at No. 1 Fossil Ridge) suffered sizeable defeats on the road.
