AURORA | Senior night couldn’t have gone any better for the Regis Jesuit girls lacrosse team.
The senior-laden Raiders celebrated their final regular season home game at Lou Kellogg Stadium with a thrilling 13-10 victory over Cherry Creek Friday night, the program’s first victory over the powerhouse Bruins.
Fittingly, seniors combined to score 12 of the 13 goals for coach Billy Corbett’s Raiders, who finished off a 13-2 regular season in style.
Combined with a two-goal win over Kent Denver in the previous game, Regis Jesuit put itself in position to get the top seed in the state playoffs when the bracket is released on Monday.
Against the Bruins, Courtney Gielow scored a team-high three goals, while Kathryn Blumhardt, Kellen Foster, Faye Hubregsen and Erin Sungelo tallied a pair each.
Senior goalie Emma Bohn was credited with four saves as Regis Jesuit held Cherry Creek to just 10 goals, matching its lowest output against a Colorado team this season.
The Bruins — who beat the Raiders 11-8 last season — suffered only their second defeat of the season and first since a 15-4 loss to Moorestown, N.J., on April 6.
The win was also the first over Cherry Creek in the coaching career of Corbett, who lost to the Bruins multiple times as coach at Smoky Hill.
