LAKEWOOD | The Eaglecrest girls lacrosse team’s stay in the postseason was short, but certainly significant.

The Raptors qualified for the Class 4A state playoffs for the first time in 24 seasons, making a big jump from a winless season in 2024, and last just one round with a rain-soaked 15-9 loss to Dakota Ridge Tuesday at Trailblazer Stadium.

Senior Shylin Collins scored eight goals and assisted on the other to freshman Kendall Colglazier for coach Amanda Sehres’ team, which finished the season 5-9 overall.

According to Colorado High School Activities Association records, it was Eaglecrest’s playoff appearance is its first since 2001, when it made the last of three straight trips following the sport’s sanctioning for girls in 1998.

Dakota Ridge (9-6), meanwhile, advanced to a road matchup against No. 6 Steamboat Springs (10-4) in Thursday’s second round.

Despite the loss, it was a big step forward for the Eaglecrest program, which Sehres said had just 12 players at the end of last season, but surged to 40 this season.

The Raptors grew in size early in the season when some players from the Rangeview program that didn’t have enough players came aboard. That included Collins, who notched a whopping 70 goals in just 11 games with Eaglecrest and finished a four-year career with more than 200.

The Raptors move on with a strong core of freshmen, which includes Colglazier, Melia Ricketson, Leah Park and Charlie Beckwith on offense and a number on defense as well. Eaglecrest had a freshman in the goal for the playoff contest in Will Raleigh, who stopped 10 of the 25 shots that came her way.
