AURORA | Centaurus has turned into something of a nemesis for the Regis Jesuit girls lacrosse team, which hoped to get a much-needed win against the Warriors in Friday night’s regular season finale.

The Raiders played right with Centaurus for the majority of the time at Lou Kellogg Stadium, but a 7-goal burst by the Warriors spanning late in the first half to the first five minutes of the second half proved too much for Regis Jesuit to overcome in a 14-11 loss.

Mathison Davis and Kathleen Roe scored three goals apiece and Brooke Dibiase and Mackenzie Reifsnider each had two for coach Billy Corbett’s Raiders, which played much closer than they did in a 17-5 loss to the Warriors last season, but still have lost the last four times the teams have played, including in the 2013 state semifinals.

Regis Jesuit — which played without junior captain Katie Schilmoeller, who is recovering from concussion symptoms — dropped to 7-8 overall, but expects to be included in the playoff field, which is announced Monday.

Corbett believes Schilmoeller will be cleared to play in the postseason.

Roe put the Raiders on the scoreboard first in the opening minutes and also gave them a 5-4 lead with 6 minutes, 58 seconds remaining in the first half, but that would be Regis Jesuit’s last goal for nearly 14 minutes of game time as Centaurus took command.

Andrea Kim scored twice in the final 1:49 to send the Warriors into halftime with a 6-5 advantage, while they used dazzling ball movement to score the first five goals of the second half as well.

Sarah Myres racked up three of her game-high five goals in the opening 5:32 of the second half to grow Centaurus’ lead to 11-6.

Reifsnider scored back-to-back goals to give Regis Jesuit hope, but another three-goal burst from the Warriors pushed the lead back to seven goals.
