LAFAYETTE | Sooner or later in the girls state lacrosse playoffs, Regis Jesuit runs into Centaurus.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, they’ve had little success slowing down the high-powered Warriors and Friday’s second round postseason meeting was no exception.
Second-seeded Centaurus scored nine goals in the first half and piled on eight more in the second half on its way to a decisive 17-5 victory over a young Regis Jesuit playing with just three seniors. Coach Billy Corbett’s Raiders, who were stopped in the postseason by the Warriors for the third straight season — including in the 2013 semifinals — and four of the past five seasons, finished 7-10.
Sophomore Kathleen Roe scored a pair of goals and dished out an assist and Emily Hammerstein, Noa Crowley and Mathison Davis also found the back of the net for Regis Jesuit, which struggled all game long to get possession from the aggressive Warriors (15-1).
Sophomore goalie Sofia Evangelista made five saves for the Raiders.
