ARVADA | The stage is set for the Overland gymnastics team to take a shot at a second consecutive Class 5A state championship.

The defending state champion Trailblazers won the Region 2 tournament Thursday evening at Arvada West High School with a total score of 182.4 points, taking one of the two automatic team berths in the 5A state meet Nov. 2-3 at Thornton High School.

Standley Lake came in a distant second with a score of 176.475, followed by Arvada West in third with 176.2.

A different Overland gymnast posted the top score in all four events — Kellyn Toole in the floor exercise, Devin Bundas on the balance beam, Ashlynn Graybill on the uneven bars and Kate Johnson on the vault — and coach Lisa Sparrow’s Trailblazers had four of the top seven finishers in the all-around competition with Graybill in second, Toole in third, Johnson in sixth and Bundas in seventh.
