At just 14 years of age, Morgan Sahm is likely to have a lot of high-profile golf tournaments in her future.

The Grandview High School freshman-to-be got the first one under her belt June 18-19 when she competed in the 36th U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship in Neshanic Station, N.J.

As the only current Colorado player in the 156-player field of public course golfers from across the country, Sahm finished with a two-day total of a 43-over-par 187, which put her 154th on the leaderboard after two rounds at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course.

Sahm missed the cut — just the top 64 players advanced to the match play format that would decide the champion on June 23 — but she improved from round to round. Though she cut her score by just a stroke, Sahm posted seven pars in her second round, three more than in the opening round.

One hole in each round hurt Sahm’s score significantly, both on the front nine. In the opening round, it was an 11 on the par-5 No. 4 and in the final round it was a 10 on the par-4 No. 5, which she’d finished in five the previous day.

Here’s a look at Sahm’s scorecard for the two rounds of stroke play.

Of the four players who qualified out of a tournament on June 4 at Spring Valley Golf Club in Elizabeth, only Jennifer Yang of Seattle qualified for the match play portion of the tournament. Yang tied for 54th overall by shooting rounds of 73 and 75.

Former Highlands Ranch resident Lindsay McGetrick — who plays at North Carolina State — finished 115th with a two-day total of 156 and the medalist at the qualifier, Kayla Riede of Dixon, Calif., shot 161 to tie for 138th.
