AURORA | In challenging weather conditions on an already challenging course, the Vista PEAK girls golf team emerged victorious Monday.
Coach Michael Dougherty’s Bison played below their usual standard for the season — in part due to cold and soggy conditions on their home course of Murphy Creek Golf Course — but they still managed to post a decisive Colorado 7 victory.
Junior Sam Chaney and sophomore Kyree Conaway shot 93 and 95, respectively, to post the top two individual scores of the day as Vista PEAK finished with a plus-75 team total of 291. The Bison had plenty of breathing room to finish in front of Elizabeth (326), Fort Morgan (332) and Strasburg (338).
Senior Kylee Shepard — like Chaney a qualifier for last season’s Class 4A state tournament — shot a 103 to finish fourth overall, while Olivia Lopez turned in a 114 to round out Vista PEAK’s scoring.
The Bison came in off an eighth-place showing at the Grandview Invitational on April 7 at Heritage Eagle Bend.
