AURORA | With the second major tournament in the books, EMAC girls golf teams can turn their attentions to upcoming Class 5A regionals.
The final results after Tuesday’s tournament at Fitzsimons Golf Course determined where Aurora teams and others play May 8 for their chances to make the May 22-23 5A state tournament at the Club at Rolling Hills.
EMAC champion Vista PEAK is a 4A team and drops out of the equation when it comes to 5A regionals — the Bison play host to 4A Region 4 May 5 at Murphy Creek G.C. — moving every other team up one spot from their final position.
The Northern Regional at Aurora Hills G.C. was set to be hosted by Gateway and the Olys will be among the three league teams in the field. Though they finished in a league position that would have sent them to the Southern Regional, the hosting duties had them swapped with Aurora Central.
Rangeview joins Gateway at the Northern Regional along with Northglenn, the EMAC’s No. 1 5A seed. The tournament is set for an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
Eighth-place Hinkley joins No. 4 Prairie View as EMAC teams in the Central Regional at City Park G.C. in Denver, a tournament scheduled for a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
The Trojans now head to the Southern Regional at Aurora’s Meadow Hills G.C. along with No. 3 Brighton. That regional — currently set to be hosted by Grandview — is scheduled for an 8 a.m. start.
The remaining EMAC teams, No. 2 Thornton, No. 6 Westminster and No. 10 Adams City, all compete in the Western Regional at Fox Hollow G.C. in Lakewood.
The full regional fields are not yet complete, as both the Centennial League and Continental League have another tournament left to determine final league standings.
