AURORA | The Centennial League girls golf season concluded last week with its final tournament at Saddle Rock G.C., where team and individual honors were finalized.
Cherokee Trail won the fifth and last tournament and solidified its hold on second place in the final league standings, as coach Justin Jajczyk’s team finished 12 strokes clear of Mullen (1,695 to 1,707) for the spot behind runaway winner Cherry Creek (1,627).
The Cougars were led by sophomore Brinnon Cook, who earned a share of the league’s individual medalist honors along with Cherry Creek’s Tatum Platt. Cook played in all five tournaments and won the first one, which was played at Littleton Golf & Tennis Club, while she tied with senior teammate Haylee Clark for the top spot in the league gathering at Foothills G.C. Platt had three first place finishes, but missed the first tournament.
Clark earned a spot among the top 10 players that were hailed as All-Centennial League first team performers, a group that also includes Grandview junior Jean Lim among locals.
The final standings also determined the destinations for each program for the upcoming regional state qualifying tournaments.
As Centennial League runner-up, Cherokee Trail moves into the Central Region (scheduled for May 12 at City Park G.C)., while Grandview becomes part of the Western Region (set for May 12 at Indian Tree G.C.) and Eaglecrest joins the Southern Region (to be played May 12 at the Pinery Golf Club).
