AURORA | Cold and wind made Monday’s Grandview Invitational less than ideal, but girls golfers were just glad to be on the course.

With much of the early season scrapped by snow, 20 teams — including two from the host Wolves, plus Cherokee Trail and Regis Jesuit — got in a chilly round during the 11th annual event at Heritage Eagle Bend that still produced some strong scores.

Centennial League power Arapahoe had the top team in the tournament, as well as the top individual in Claudia Davis. Davis carded a 74, one stroke better than teammate Hannah Wood, the 2012 tournament champion, and Valor Christian’s Torey Glen.

Grandview freshman Morgan Sahm’s 79 stood as the top score among Aurora golfers and tied for the fifth-best in the entire field. Sahm led her team for the second straight tournament, as she was also the Wolves’ best finisher two days earlier at the Broomfield Chilly/Chili tournament Saturday at Eagle Trace.

Faith Hope — who shot an 82 in last season’s tournament — led Cherokee Trail with an 89, while the best score for Regis Jesuit was a 94 turned in by Mary Holmes.

The Raiders, last season’s Class 4A state champions who have moved up to 5A this season, did not have their top five players at the tournament.
