PARKER | A lot of Colorado girls golfers have been chasing Jennifer Kupcho this summer.

The Jefferson Academy senior and reigning Class 4A girls state golf champion has been in a zone in a variety of events in and out of state and she was at it again during the final round of the CJGA Girls 14-18 Junior Series Championship Tuesday at Black Bear Golf Course.

Grandview junior Morgan Sahm shot a 1-over-par 73 to take a stroke lead on the 19-player field after Monday’s first round, but watched as Kupcho posted a round of 1-under-par 71 to close — which included five birdies — and rocket past her to the championship.

Sahm — who a few days earlier shot a round of 4-under 67 to win a two-day Rocky Mountain Junior Golf Tournament event at Kennedy Golf Course — finished the CJGA event with a round of 8-over 80, which left her in second place with a two-round total of a plus-9 153, eight strokes behind Kupcho.

Regis Jesuit junior Mary Weinstein sat in a tie for third place after an opening-round 75 and ended in fourth after shooting a 9-over 81 in the final round. Weinstein’s total of plus-12 156 left her a stroke behind Gillian Vance of Lakewood for third place.

Sophomore Jaclyn Murray, Weinstein’s Regis Jesuit teammate — as well as her teammate on the Colorado team that played in the Girls’ Junior Americas Cup in Walla Walla, Washington — shot an 85 in the second round and finished tied for 10th at 169.
